Help: Upgrading oem brakes on A6..

My brother has an 02 A6 and I would like better stopping power without going into the BBK kits. The stock rotors always seem to warp after about 6k miles causing a vibration in the steering wheel. Are there any companies out there that make a replacement rotor? I checked with brembo and they do not have one. Also if someone can recommend some pads, ss lines, brake fluid for agressive street driving I would appreciate it. TIA

Stay away from SS lines--durability is a concern with those.

Check out www.ecstuning.com for upgrade packages, they have a pretty good selection for that kind of stuff.

Motul fluid is pretty good. I am running that in my car. The only problem is that it goes off pretty fast so if you don't want to change fluid every year or so, you would be better served by something less "extreme."

Pad choices can range from mintex to hawk (kinda the pad of choice for B6 A4 guys) to others. It is usually a tradeoff between dust, sound, and pedal feel/performance.

To be honest I am not super familiar with brake upgrades for the A6. I would check out www.audiworld.com and search around. The people there are pretty knowledgeable and this topic has probably been pretty well covered--especially if it is a C5 A6.

Good luck.

Why are SS lines a risk? I use them in both my BMW(getting traded in for a RS6 tomorrow btw) and in my porsche(rcar) and havnt had any problems...

Anyhow, I like the Hawk HPS+ for more performance oriented driving but they are louder pads...

Is it a 2.7T or 4.2L bpanos?

The stock rotors and pads are the culprit. Essentially the rotors aren't porous (microscopically) enough so pad material doesn't properly get bedded into the rotors initially. This leads to pad deposits on the rotors which can lead to a "warped" rotor sensation when braking. There are aftermarket rotors available.

Yes, Hawk HPS+ are pretty loud. Pagid black's and Mintex red box's are good, although at times the Mintex can squeak.

Check with Performance Friction about replacement rotors. They have some OEM-fit solutions including 2-piece rotors.

As far as fluid goes, I've had really good success with ATE Super Blue...

Chris,

Beware of the ATE SuperBlue on the Audi's, especially the earlier C5 A6's, B5 A4/S4's. It will make the slave cyl squeak like a pig.

I'd suggest the Motul RBF600. It will still last 2yrs and is great for performance/track driving.
