GMP Performance's Audi S3 Race Car
 

One of the saddest parts of having project cars is when you know its come time for something new. It comes time to send your beloved car, loaded with lots of time and work, into the world to go be loved by someone new.

That time has come for us and our Audi S3 Race Car.

We purchased this Audi S3 from APR in December of 2009 to use for our drivers ed programs in 2010, so we'd be able to go racing! We've been running it in the NASA GTS3 class ever since. It is a one-of-a-kind car and really fun to race.

It is also perhaps one of the most well-documented race cars you will find. For anyone familiar with GMP Performance, you know we love taking pictures of every step of every install we do, and our S3 was no exception. We've documented everything from parts installs, paint jobs, and just about every time its seen the track, between the build gallery and our events section.

Now for some stats:

General:
-The car weighs 2,450

-Runs 1.47's at CMP, 1.38's at Road Atlanta, 2.10's at VIR

-Hundreds of build pictures and an organized binder containing wiring diagrams, parts diagrams, part information, setup notes and more plus a separate chassis and engine log book with quick access part numbers for all engine parts and torque specs for all engine components and suspension.


Interior:
- Completely stripped interior with lightnened doors and alumminum interior panels. We retained the top of the factory dash.

- Autometer tachometer, EGT gauge, water temp gauge, oil pressure gauge, and boost gauge

- 6 point roll cage.

Engine:

- VW AWM 1.8L Block with Garret GT28-71 turbo charger and APR inconel exhaust manifold

- JE Pistons P/N 242909 8.5:1 / Forged Rods w/ ARP bolts ARP200-6209 / Calico Race Bearings /

- Raceware Head Studs P/N RWE-1038

- Raceware main studs

- INE baffled oil pan

- SPEC Aluminum flywheel w/ custom South Bend clutch and pressure plate

- Carbonio Cold Air Intake

- APR Intercooler w/ custom aluminum charge piping from turbo to intercooler

- Custom Oil Cooler (OE water-oil heat exchanger removed)

- Customer power steering cooler and large reservoir

- Injector Dynamics 1000cc Injectors, P/N 1000.60.14

- MegaSquirt III w/ MS3x Expansion Stand Alone Engine Management tuned for E85. Custom coil driver board for VAG low impedance coils (R revision 1.8t). KnockSenseMS knock sensor decoder. Fully sequential fuel and ignition, EGT logging, fuel pressure logging, oil pressure logging.

- Adjustable rear link arms (all 4)

- Tyrol Sport Sub-frame solid mounts

- Custom-made spherical bearing inner control arm bushings

- H&R Sway Bars

- Ohlins 2-Way adjustable shocks with Eibach 600lb/in front springs and HyperCoils 1100lb/in rear springs


Brakes:

-Alcon 4-Piston Calipers with 328x28mm 2-Piece Rotors

- Manual Brake Bias Controller

- Carbotech XP20 Front Pads / XP10 Rear Pads

- Slotted Rear Discs


Wheels/Tires:

- 2 Sets of 17x9.0 wheels with 245x40x17 BF Goodrich tires (one set is R1S and one set R1)


Recent Maintenance:

- The engine was rebuilt 10/2012 with new pistons, seals, and bearings. Five HPDE track weekends and two race weekends since rebuild.

- Transmission was rebuilt in May. Replaced 3rd gear syncro

- New brake pads for the last race.

- Oil change 8/7/13 with zero hours at time of writing

Really nice weekend toy!! I think I saw this car on speed Chanel on that show are you faster then a redneck? Either way good luck finder her a new home.

Thanks!! Its a blast to drive. It was on SPEED's show and yes, we were :) The car is up for sale and something different than the usual E36. Its a well sorted car and the new owner will have lots of fun with it.

What's the crank/wheel hp? Awd? thanks

In it's current configuration, it's running 275 AWHP on E85. :)
