History

The car started off in IL. I’m third owner, and purchased it from a local exotic car specialized dealer in 2015. I’ve maintained it through Chris German auto who is specialized for Porsche. They only deals with Porsches. After I got it I replaced tire, spark plug and oil, filter change.

Engine Rebuild + 12 months/12,000 miles warranty ($28,000, record and pictures available)
Engine rebuild and upgrade to 4.0 is done by Tiger Motorsport in LA. The shop has 20+ racing cars tuned by the owner and they are all reliable without any breakdown. He knows what he is doing. For the reference, you can call and talk about my car.

After I went through this, I now realize 3.8L M97 engine is not reliable. Mine had rod bold failure because Porsche uses $3 rod bolt can be easily broken. And another numerous potential to be failed include IMS bearing, bore scoring etc. Most of the potential failure was treated well with LN engineering Nikies, IMS upgrade kit, bigger oil pan.

Unfortunately, 997 3.8L engine is not that reliable when it comes to catastrophic failure. However, this 4.0L rebuilt engine will give you better reliability than other 997’s.
All of the potential risks have been addressed by the shop, obviously, IMS bearing, stronger rod bold and other things. More importantly, 4.0L engine can avoid all potential issues that 3.8L engine has. For detailed engine upgrade, see the document I linked.
