I assume to get to a 5 you have to pass through the first 4.

The DME report shows the number of ignitions, not the number of times the engine has been in that range. It is not possible to pass through a rev range and only register 1 ignition. For those that don't understand what a DME report is or how to interpret it, please do some research before cluttering his for sale thread with speculation and conjecture. See image below for an explanation of this DME report:

The DME report is absolutely a nonissue with this car.

The front lip does have damage that can be seen in both the video and pictures. I'm not sure why the owner is denying it, but this is typical damage you see on nearly all 997 turbo front lips. The buy an OEM lip and have it painted is a bit pricey, but OEM style aftermarket front lips (unpainted - black plastic) can be had for $100 shipped. I have one on my car and am quite happy with it. I would never pay the price for an OEM front lip spoiler given how easy they are to damage.

"The DME report is absolutely a nonissue with this car."?

Why not? Is does or doesn't have a range 5 ?

It does have a range 5 but it's not real so it's a non-issue. The DME computers are not infallible and have glitch numbers all the time. Contrary to what the BAT peanut gallery might lead one to believe, this overrev readout is totally fine.

I wish I could slap the guy at Porsche who greenlit these rev counters.

agreed. Overrev reports are overblown. When was the last time a Mezger has failed due to an overrev, compared to real issues and risks like a $5000 motor out welded coolant pipe fix, or a even a $2000+ spun camshaft? Those things are more important

I wish the seller best results for this fine turbo.

Just don’t get why some Porsche guys are so fixated on over-revs. Yea, I know what can happen internally, but why isn’t an issue with other manual sports cars, or even a boxer engine Subaru?

Spun camshafts can be even more than that, usually ends up in a total engine teardown at $7k+.

Another one I like to point out is PDK failures. Hop on Google and you can pull up 10+ documented cases of the PDK failing out of warranty and needing a complete replacement ($10k+ due to its voodoo nature, up to $20k if you buy the unit new from Porsche), yet nobody bats an eye about buying one.

Still waiting to hear about a Mezger rattling apart from a handful of old range 5 overrevs, though....

Not getting driven ~ we’ve had rain here in SoCal.

Somebody should gift themselves or a loved one this pristine Turbo. The color is gorgeous and the condition is superlative.

I had to deal with annoying DME people so many times I lost count with my 996 TT, 996 GT2 and 997 TT. My 996 TT was my track car for 2 years and I sold it witht the same number of overrevs as when I bought it. The car never had a motor issue ever and yet when I went to sell it that was all some people would focus on. Good luck buying any manual car that doesn't log over-revs! Truly the most useless bit of information out there and I'll leave it at that. GLWS
