I'm in the market for a used 2001 996TT. Looking at spending somewhere between $75K and $80K, depending on mileage, condition, options, and history.

75k-80 is a bit low. Might have to do 80-85 otherwise the mileage will be quite high I should suspect, or maybe a strange color combo that hasn't sold.

That's funny, I actually thought I was a little high with my range. Seems like these cars have really depreciated recently. I checked the true wholesale value of a 2001 996TT with 10k miles and was astonished to find that it was only $71k according to Galves, the black book that dealers here in NY use.

I guess that is why you offered 76,000 for my car!!!!!! It would bring more than that a the auction.

No offense, but there's no way your car would bring more than $76k at the auctions. Go to KBB.com and check out the trade in value of your car. It's about $74k according to KBB, but the wholesale books list it for a few thousand less. Your car would go for $70k to $72k at the auctions. Trust me, I've seen been monitoring the Manheim auction results for a few months now.

I'll let the rest of these guy's chime in on pricing of Turbos. There is no way my car would do 70 to 72 at the auction. I have had wholesalers offer me more than that, and they planned on taking it to the auction. Plus you have to pay buy fees of 700 to 800 dollars. I hope you find a NICE car for what you want to pay Marc.

Sorry, but the Manheim auction results I check online are password protected. But I will tell you this, there was one that went for $70485 last Thursday! It was a 2001 with 19k miles.

If you have been looking for the past few months I guess you should have bought it at that price.:rolleyes: Doesn't look like you have anyone interested in selling at that price on this board. :confused:

Actually, I've had two people off this site email me about 996TT's for sale in the $75k to $80k range. One of them was raced and I wasn't interested in it. The other is currently modded and I'm still talking to the guy about it.

I have been looking at 996TT's for a few months now, but haven't really been in the market until just recently. And believe me, I'm in absolutely no rush.

Unless you're a wholesaler or you find someone desperate to get out from under a payment, there's no way you'll get a car for the low $70ks. We all know what our cars are really worth wholesale, but chances are not one of us would be able to buy one for that price without some sort of connection. As others have said, what's a few grand more if you find the "right" car? I'll bet at the end of the day you don't end buying one at all.

I just logged into my Manheim auction account and here are three Turbos that sold 2 weeks ago in PA:

PORSCHE 911 TURBO 2001 SILVER MILES 10708 $74000
PORSCHE 911 TURBO 2001 ORANGE MILES 3399 $79000
PORSCHE 911 TURBO 2003 YELLOW MILES 1667 $111000

If I was taking a customer for these he would pay the bid price which is listed plus the auction fee which is around $800-$1,000 and he would pay me about a 4% dealer fee.

ESK - Who said I was trying to get a 996TT for low $70ks? Read my post again - I'm offering $75k to $80k - which is retail. When people said THAT price was too low, I commented on what the car wholesales for.

Stryke - I guess my friend is a true friend then if he only charges me $100 to take me with him to the auction? I bought my Jeep through him and I paid the bid + $100 only. No auction fees or dealer fees. =)

Auction fees are not up to him. It is how the auction makes money. You pay the bid to the seller, and auctions fees to the auction house and the dealer fees to the dealer who takes you. I have taken family for free, but this is my structure for regular customers. If a dealer takes the whole day off from work, gets up early and spends it with you at the auction, he has to make a few grand or it's not worth going. Don't forget that just being a dealer costs at least $600 a month in fees even if you do nothing (not including rent, business overhead etc.)
