Everyone who knows more about these 996TTs than I do have said don't waste your time or money on the GT2 ICs. Just food for thought.

Yeah doesn't seem to be too many used EVOMS, Proto, Switzer, (the good ones) etc around... you see these GT2 used ones all the time for around 400 it seems.

I have been on the lookout as well. ;)

Gents,
It all depends on your HP requirements and how you feel about adding some lag to your performance profile.

I agree that there are superior intercoolers, in terms of long high hp/boost runs, but in the real world the GT2 intercoolers work as intended. The Factory guys aren't slouches who bothered to come up with these and could have built anything they pleased, but were building real world cars. So, when you can get a quality perfromance piece at a price like this..... Well, if you want 650-700 hp I agree, don't bother. But for most real world turbos the offer on the GT2 'coolers is an outstanding value.

John, do you have info on just mow much better the GT2 ICs are than the stock 996TT ICs? I have heard not much and therefore not worth it, but can't find any data.

Factory GT2 intercooler size

Sorry,
Just now saw the question about how much they flow. Per the Factory, they flow another 5%. That is pretty small potatoes [figure they are calibrated to be perfect with X50/GT2 hp, or 450/460... but weren't changed when they upped the hp to ..what was it, 480..something?].

I don't remember too much about the aftermarket intercoolers, except that the best ones had superior strength end tanks [for the expected much higher boost]. I don't think any of them flow better than the Factory..in terms of good smooth air flow... just a size advantage. The less well constructed ones don't fit at all well and many times have serious flow issues as they are not well built.

This is pretty much a variation of the same issues we turbo guys have had for decades. I also have an early, highly modded, 930. On these cars we have to go inside the engines to get serious hp/torque increases. No simply chipping and freer exhaust like the water puffers. We also have had to deal with these same basic issues and it is all about flow. You want a really huge hp number? Well, you will have an engine that will produce it but only in a limited rev range and suffer elsewhere. Huge intercooler, forget throttle response and low end. Same with turbo sizing. All have a sweet spot relative to displacement, what rev range you need to have good power in, and don't forget that big hp means big thermal stress and that means how short an engine life can you afford to live with.

But there is nothing like these things. ENJOY
JR
