Finally got my 997 and looking for PSE

Hello 6Speedonline! So I finally purchased my dream car, a silver Carrera 997. Recently added some Sport Classic wheels to give it that classic touch. Now I am looking to add the PSE. If anyone is interested in selling a PSE, please message me.

I admit, that I was so excited to get the Porsche that maybe I should of looked further for Carrera S. I didn't know that the mods that can be done to the Carrera are very limited. Add the exhaust and thats it, well at least Porsche Mods not anything aftermarket. Any Suggestion?

At least consider an after market exhaust. The PSE is very heavy and convoluted with wiring, valves and buttons so you can adjust the noise level. The Tubi which to my ears sounds better and weights 30 lbs. less does the same thing without wiring, valves and buttons by keeping the rpm below 3,000.

First post nails it.

Oh, and as far as this being the limit of your spending, welcome to the world of Porsche.

3 years later, 2 different cars, $100k…

I tried every exhaust from Cargraphic to Tubi and my favorite was Fister exhaust with AWE 200 cell cats & X51 headers.

How about the "gundo" mod to the stock exhaust. It makes the car sound pretty close to the PSE. I have the Gundo, a friend has the PSE and it's hard to tell them apart.

X...

Been looking at the undo hack but wonder if it will sacrifice smog emissions since its essentially a straight pipe?

I'm not from California, so I haven't dealt with their emissions. In my opinion, as long as you keep the stock cats on, you shouldn't have any issues.

No issues with smog. I just had a smog done and past...as long as my stock air box was in. I have read about 200 cats being installed but I would think here in Cali you would fail the visual inspection.... but I don't know. Maybe a call to Sharkweks can clear this up for me.

ill give Sharkwerks a call. Checked out the Tubi systems and saw a few of the youtube videos, seems that even though they sound great they miss that German Porsche sound. You know Porsche engineers spend months fine tuning these exhaust to sound just perfect, even more reason the Gundo hack might me the solution.

Youtube videos and audio clips are all good and well but I haven't heard one yet that comes close to the real thing.

Gundo is functionally the same as PSE in loud mode.

It bypasses part of the muffler, which only works to reduce the sound of the exhaust and not emissions. The catalytic converters are the parts which reduce emissions, and they are unaffected with Gundo.

While the Gundo is similar to the PSE, I drove a Gundo and a PSE in sport mode back-to-back and have to say that the PSE sound was a bit more refined and desirable sound (in my opinion). I'd say that the Gundo works fine if you are trying to find an economical solution but if the significant cost isn't a big deal then the PSE would be preferred. It is a lot of extra money though. If you are going to spend that kind of money, the early posts about it being spent better on an aftermarket solution are right on.

Note that if you want the PSE to be switchable like it is from the factory you'll need to add the switching hardware and pay the dealer to make the necessary programming mods. There are also aftermarket solutions. Many are fine with leaving it open all of the time (which is its normal setting if the vacuum switch isn't hooked up).

Just to verify, your car is a 997.1 (2005-2008) right? There are other options for 997.2s.

I have PSE on my car.

I think Gundo only sounds different because it doesn't switch on and off - PSE switches off at certain speeds and RPMs to abide noise laws.
