Even with the pump gas custom map we're currently running with our Cobb custom tune OEM injectors are close to getting maxed with duty cycles up in the low 90s. IMHO there would certainly be power left on the table leaving the OEM injectors in place on full E85. We'll also be swapping injectors to the ID1000s soon along with an ERP triple carbon next week to see where we stand on race gas and/or E85 and OEM VTGs/stock motor.

my boost is 1.1-1.15 bar right now

Hi

I think E85/78 cold idle is the same ie crappy

Mitch@Cobb changed my cold startup in the last map so its back to stock behavior, will see how it works when it gets really cold though.

Though before it was more dramatic, I made Volvo car alarms go off every time I started the tt!

+1 I wish cosmetic mods could be kept in the general 997 area. Would be great to keep engine related stuff separate from boring wheel stuff!

Hi Andy, we actually did a number of things along with injectors including a Tial Alpha 3076 swap, ERP clutch, axles, coolant pipe pinning, AMS intercoolers and just recently meth injection via Aquamist. Weather has gotten really cold up here and with salt on the roads the car has traction issues in 3rd and sometimes 4th on the Pirelli Trofeo tires. We managed to pull off a 6.1sec verified 60-130 on pump gas at 20psi so far with full weight and the car has a high 5 in it on pump. With meth and about 24-25psi that we're running with meth now it'll get very interesting. I'd love to go back to the OEM VTGs at some point with meth and see what we can get there as well. Let me know if any questions at all dzenno@protuningfreaks.com.

Thanks so much Bro for taking time to answer those questions, so to run E85 u guys only change ID1000 & 5bar FPR? leaving the pump stock? Will it be better if we can also upgrade the pump or not necessarily? What's the max power awhp have u seen on this set up? Thanks again Bro.

No problem at all. On OEM VTGs id1000s should be enough for E85, past that it'd be better to go with id1300s and depending on the power goals you'd swap the OEM pumps for a pair of E85 compatible Walbro 455s. I wouldn't touch the OEM fuel regulator.

I have a question that maybe some of you experienced with Ethanol can help me with??

If you understand basic chemistry/metallurgy it appears pretty clear that alcohol (ethanol in this case) has a very corrosive and destructive affect on aluminum and many plastics/rubbers etc..

I understand that cars that are E85 compliant use different plastics/rubbers and coatings over aluminum parts/pistons that may be exposed to the ethanol.

Has anyone here considered the long (or even short) term effects of running E85 in these cars with all the aluminum parts...and plastics not designed to this? Anyone have enough time running and tear down the engine to check?

It sounds pretty awesome...the results people are claiming...I am just wondering when you pull one apart...are you going to have plastic and rubber chunks from the fuel tank/pump plugging up the lines and/or injectors? Are the pistons and/or blocks going to be corroded and pitted?

Just trying to get a perspective on this and additional information/facts??

Any responses appreciated as I am trying to reconcile this..

Thanks!
DC

So since there is ethanol in all fuel, and car manufactures knew this mid 2000's most cars are prepared, so its more of a software issue. But most common issue when switching is that the E85 loosens up so much stuff that fuel filters can get clogged.

I ran E40 in my bmw for years, only related issue was going sideways due to high boost and aggressive timing
