wiring harness corrosion

I have been reading on forums that there is a problem with the wiring harness corroding

quoting from another forum
"One problem is that a major electrical cable as thick as your wrist runs through one of the cills. In the cill it splits into 8 sub-cables. This is prone to being a wet area, since drain holes were sized for California rather than the UK, and they get clogged up. When the cable connections corrode and it is necessary to get at them, the whole of the dash and the air conditioning plenum have to come out, and so on.........so beware.

The small drain holes need to be blown through with compresed air on a regular basis"

does anybody have anymore info on this. What has to be cleaned out? side sills removed and the harness is there? not sure where to look and has anybody ever heard of this problem?

No issues here. I would want to know how many GT's have experienced this problem.

Hello. If you raise the hood, lift the passenger side cowl panel, there are a bundle of taped wiring harnesses that enter into the "E-box" fuse box. With a flashlight, look down under all the mess. If you see water, there is a good chance that harness will be corroding. The drain is difficult to access, but can be cleared with the right air nozzle.

I have several years experience with these cars and yes that is something that I have personally seen and had to perform the harness repairs.

i have been working on these cars since there intro and have done many of these cases of harness repair,it is bit of a struggle to do ,just remember to disconnect batteries and tread carefully.symptons of issue can vary from no HVAC fans to a non-start situation.

The drain is in the center of the cowling. If you remove some items from the passenger side, sometimes you can get a metal coat hanger in under the HVAC unit to clear it. If there is no water in the cowl, you won't have confirmation if you opened it or not. I not 100% sure about access from anywhere else. Definitely no access from under vehicle. Possible access through steering rack area. (Might have to loosen/remove heat shield)

To BentleyF. You might also check around the fuse box in the cowl panel on passenger side. I have experienced water leaks into passenger floor entering in from around the fuse box.
