Anyone ever change this bulb? Seems impossible to reach, headlamp

The inner bulb just went out on me, pictured below:

https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...ine=1367173481

Anyone ever change it out? It didn't give an error on the dash so I was thinking to just remove the other one as well, I like the look with just the projectors and no yellow.

I looked behind and it seems SUPER tight, any tips on how to access it?

Thanks

its hard, but you can access from under the hood. do it when engine is cold so you dont burn yourself.

mines is out too the dealer told $1.800 to change signal and parking bulbs..
you can just remove fuse they are on separate ones.. They claim they have to remove fenders and bumper.. they get 6 hours labor time for warranty to fix this... as you can tell I said no!!!!

i asked this before, i tried to get to the bulbs i gave up.

i am sure front bumper has to come off, let me know if you can get to it. i want to change mine to leds that i have.

I looked and think u can change the bulb on the lhs as u can fit your hand in. However, rhs has radiator expansion tank and I see no way how I can reach in to remove cover to replace bulb.

I too want to replace the w5 with LED, will investigate a bit more or maybe ask a 3yo to stick their hand down the tight gap?

bentleytech 04-29-2013 09:03 AM

the book says to remove head light assembly but it can be done without doing that,it is hard but i know it can be done.the cover on rhs is just as hard to put back on as well as remove with head light in situ.

just did the 2 wedge bulbs in the headlights.6000 k canbus leds.

removed rubber intake pipe with 1 clamp on passenger side

almost snapped my wrist in half.
30 mins of work, both bulbs swapped to led.

make sure the motor is COLD!!! mine was warm and the intake manifold is boiling!!

and yes the covers are a nightmare to put back on, they have a small cover that protects the wiring of both the bulbs, have have to pop it off,

you need small hands and small wrist. i almost gave up and was not even going to put the cover back on the passenger side.

these are the bulbs i used,

they only work 1 way so you have to plug in, test make sure they work, then put them back in the headlamp.

here is the passenger side with the led

the headlights have a slight tint on them

Do you know if I remove the bulb if I will get an error? The passenger side is currently out and I have not got any errors. I am hoping I can just remove the drivers side bulb and just not have them on at all. Thanks

That looks real good! So i guess it is possible lol, thanks

Also on a side note, I tried removing the fuse, the main/dip fuse under the steering only disables the low beam. The indicator fuse disable the parking lights but it also disables the turn signals. So my only option is to access the bulb. I'll update if I have any luck:)

Here is a shot for reference of the space behind the headlights. Very tight.

I did 6k bulbs ,looks great when headlights are off,but when headlights come on they don't match at all, had them from a previous car they are too blue

The stock headlight I think is 4300k
I'm going I try a 5k led And see how close matches

Great to hear someone has managed the bulb change, will give it a try myself.

Saw Osram 4000k LED W5 bulbs as attached, will this trigger any warning lights?

Thanks

BlackGTC, thanks for posting pics. Interesting to see what is behind the bumper.

Very Welcome ETM! Im also working on a headlight project which has mushroomed into intake hose replacements (upper and lower) and minor detail work. Could not believe how brittle and worn the intake hoses were. Some areas of the hoses seemed soft enough to push a finger through. Def inspect your rubber intercooler hoses.

stevenrmusic 05-02-2013 05:54 AM

blackgtc, thanks for the info! What year car is this with the hose problems?
