I mounted a Doppler radar unit on the bonnet of my GTC which is aimed at a 4"x4"x5' stainless post located in the back of my garage.

I can't figure out why most garages are so narrow. My greatest luxury in a future house will be something like a double size entrance leading to a large multi-car space where I can show several cars without having to worry about opening a door onto anything else.

Luxury is space - as I tell my wife anytime she complains about walking up and down our 4 level home.

Ran into my first problem with lining up the wing mirrors. My wife had left the laundry concertina doors open, and my mark is on those doors!

There were many seconds of uncertainty, I can tell you. Might have to use GRWisher's doppler idea for real consistency (except for solar flare activity or a electromagnetic pulse bomb).

Just for you and you only mate here's you system.

Affix a three foot deep by four feet tall foam rubber bumper to the front wall. Make it along the whole front wall. Pull in till you feel the car hit it then let off the throttle. Cudo's mate your in.

I can tell you're a park-by-feel kinda guy. First you park your own car by hitting your small soft chair along the front wall, then you suggest I hit a giant foam pad. My wife has a similar method, whereupon she absentmindedly left the Lexus in gear in front of the garage a week back while she went to retrieve something in the house.

It gathered speed, coming to rest against the corner of the garage and badly denting the bumper/fender. A foot to the left and it would have smashed into my 12ft floor to ceiling home office windows. Three feet the other way and the Bentley would have copped it.

Parking is Perilous! Foam is the answer!

I have flying spur and had to take a storage shelf off front wall to fit the car lengthwise. It's double car so I park in middle and turn on the park distance control as I pull in so I get it right against front wall without touching it. As soon as beep turns steady, I put it in park and shut door, leaves me about 18inches between back of car and door to walk past,
