2008 FS Service Question
Bentley is recommending that I have a 4 year service done on my 08 FS with 30k miles on the odomoter as part of this years service. They recommend changing sparkplugs. Is this really necessary? I spoke to my private mechanic who services Porche, Bentley and Rolls Royce and who will be dong the service for me, as I am not in the mood this month to be rapped by Bentley. He says these sparkplugs are good for 100k, and do not need to be changed with only 30k of use. Bentley also recommends changing the break lines even though there is nothing wrong with them, nor are they showing any wear.
What are your opinnions.
Thanks

I believe the recommended replacement mileage for plugs is 40K miles. However, the Bentley service manual does recommend changing the plugs at 4/8/16 years if the mileage is not reached. Two years ago, I did my 05 CGT at 45K. Replacing them is a much bigger deal than I anticipated. Not only are the Iridium plugs expensive, there is considerable labour involved it getting at them. Unless your car is behaving badly (e.g. random misfire codes), I think you are probably OK for at least another 10K.
As for brake lines, the hotter your environment, the more affected the rubber. If there are no visible signs of deterioration (i.e. cracks, discolouration) or leaks, you might consider having a brake pressure test performed to be absolutely sure. I now have just over 50K miles and pressure is perfect on original lines. However, I live in a colder climate than some and my car never is exposed to salt.
The brake pressure spec: "with a constant pedal force of approximately 50 bar (725lbf/in2(, the pressure must not drop by more than 4 bar (58lgf/in2) within a period of 45 seconds" .
