Private seller Vs Dealership???

B Family,

I was curious as to everyones thoughts as to the pros and cons of buying from a private seller or a dealership?? Also can you purchase a "factory" warranty if purchased from a private seller?? I'm looking at a 05 Bentley with 50k miles for $52000 from a private seller or a 07 B with 37k miles for $79000. In any scenario I want a extended warranty. Advice and which is the better buy?? Thanks in advance!!!

If it was me, I'd opt for the 07 as they made many refinements from those early 04/05 models. Am not sure private sellers could ever offer factory warranty. Both look priced about right for an 'asking' price, though of course whatever deals you can make are always welcome.

CPO is everything! $4,500 for tail lights, $5,500 for LED Rear Brake Lights, what happens if your A/C goes out? Purchase a CPO from your local dealership.

Certified Pre-Owned

I would get 07 but whatever you buy make sure you have CPO and full service history.

Saying that I brought mine from dealership and they still missed out on the soft door close fault.

I can't speak for model variances regarding year of manufacture, but I can speak for warranties.
If you buy private, any original or manufacturer extended warranty can be transferred to you for a small fee, with no vehicle checks.
If you buy trade, non franchised dealer, any extended warranty cannot be transferred to you.
If you buy approved franchised dealer, you will have a twelve month warranty ( check type, see later), that can then be extended ( see later ).
If you buy private, no warranty, you can have your vehicle inspected, serviced, all works done, and then join the Bentley extended warranty program.
Warranty types: there are three types of Bentley extended warranty, 1, 2 & 3. 1 covers all mechanical and electrical items with no exclusions. 2 includes a definitive list of what is covered and nothing else. 3 covers main engine and drivetrain but not much else.

Extended warranty can be applied to vehicle up to 10 years, 100k miles with full service record. You can extend up to three years at a time. Just before year ten you can extend for three years giving you a full warranty until your car is 13
I have a 2006 and my Bentley extended warranty costs about £2600 a year for type 1. So, for £50 a week I am fully covered. That doesn't mean other things won't cost, but it's a lot of peace of mind for a small amount.
My advice: whichever way you do it, get covered with a type 1 approved warranty.

I bought a Continental with 80k miles and almost immediately had it being serviced regularly. You live and you learn, I guess.

I bought at a private used car dealer and have had no issues, that Goodness.

Life is risk every day and you can insure anything as i was told by a friend in the industry. If you do heavily insure your life and goods you better hope you have catastrophes. If not all those premiums are wasted. I hate life insurance, it's betting your going to die early.
