Service campaign - power boot system
That would appear incorrect. Several people have had models 2006, perhaps from start 2004, serviced. I've spoken to two Bentley dealers in UK re my 2006 and it us just to swing by its covered.. Now whether it's only the latch mechanism or any slack in power boot closing mechanism too, I do not know.. Would be interested to hear if they have adjusted power boot motors too..
Depending on model and year etc, there are multiple areas being addressed, including readjustment of the hinges mounting position, updated hinge mounting bolts, software update and possibly a couple other changes.
I'm guessing they know your car is older than that (am I correct) and they don't want to do the fix. So they say its not applicable to your car.
True. My car is a 2005. However, I'm under the impression that Bentley pays dealers to do service bulletins and recalls. If I am correct, wouldn't the dealer want the work?
The dealer wants the work... provided the factory is willing to pay for it. Anyone remember a recall (out of warranty replacement) on the third brake light, or the defective hose over the transmission? How about the defective convertible top (holes in canvass and falling out rear glass)?
Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

Yes the dealer gets paid. But they do not get paid very much and thus look at warranty work as a loss.
The service department is a cash cow for dealerships. Their hourly rates are way above their costs. Some times up to three times their costs. But warranty work does not pay nearly as well as other servicing. So if they are busy they would rather make their normally hourly rate than do warranty work.
Some dealerships look at the bright side which is once they get your car in they can go over it with a fine tooth comb to find other things wrong they can talk you into fixing. This is known as upcharging and every dealership does this whenever they can get their hands on your car.

Hi guys just spoke to bentley manchester. I have no issues but they have still booked me in on monday for the upgrade and a free check as I will be a new customer. I will keep you updated once I've been to them.
Enjoy the free coffee and cake, Just don't believe their lies. After my first and only service there they wanted over £3k for brake discs and pads, Had my indy check the brakes over and he said theres loads of life left in them.
15 months later and my brake pad light still hasnt come on yet....
Had my boot serviced as per the campaign and they wanted a days labour to strip down the drivers door as the handle was loose. Turned out to be a loose screw took my indy 10 seconds to rectify. also my tyres had suddenly worn to 1.6mm after being measured at 2.2mm at my indy just 4 days earlier!
but, the cakes are nice and theres plenty of toys in the showroom to keep you entertained

PS: I'm sure Les will be along soon to tell you about his experience with them....
RANGROV, use a different service center! Heed this warning!
Hi guys I was thinking of using bowling Ryan near bolton. Have any of you used them. I would not be visiting a main agent if it was not for the recall update. I will keep you posted of what they try to fleece me with, I know they will be trying to sell me extended warranty but with only 31000 mile and fish I don't think I will bother. Let me know your views please.
Hi Rangrov.
I would truly and honestly recommend Ivor at GT services in Crewe. He helped develop the GT when he worked at Bentley and was their worldwide flying doctor when there were problems.
There is nothing about these cars that he doesn't know.
One example. I was told by the main dealer you mention that I needed an engine out to fix a cam sensor. Fortunately, later that day, I got chatting to a fellow Bentley owner in the pub. After telling him about the sensor he recommended Ivor.
I took the car to him and he replaced the sensor in about half an hour. So that saved me over £3,500.
Caveat Emptor as they say.
Ivor also has a pick up and drop off service for Crewe railway station, so if you have to leave the car it's easy to get back to Manchester.
Les.

I have sent you a private message with Ivor's details.

Taking into account the honesty and quality of Ivor's work on my car I wouldn't even consider taking it anywhere else. I have Les to thank for referring me when I first bought my B.
