Service campaign - power boot system
Meanwhile back to boot latching issues.
The other day for the first times ever my lid would close but not latch. At that point the boot would open again on its own. Only way to get it to latch was to push down on the lid at the bottom of it's travel. This could be the issue of the service campaign.
I was thinking maybe the lid was harder to close than the power provided by the motor. So to make it take less force to close I decided to lubricate the hinges. There are a whole bunch of pivot points to lube. Two drops of oil on each solved the problem. Lid closes and latches fine now.

....my 2010 Speed has had a boot problem since day one...if car is on a steep hill or driveway (facing uphill) the lid will not function...Dealer says nothing really wrong...I have described this to a number of Bentley mucky mucks at various times at Pebble Beach...I was afraid to overcome the resistance manually but a knowledgeable teck told me that would not injure mechanism...I just avoid trying to open or close lid on hill...any opinions here and what news on factory recall program...I try to stay away from dealer if possible...JimB
Saturday April 1, 2017 3:30am....Johnny...thank you again for your valuable pictures...
I find the picture of the trunk mechanism in my 2010 Speed an atrocious example of wasted time, money and engineering looking for a problem to solve...we are talking major Rube Goldberg...
...Bentley adds all this crap to justify exorbitant price of car. I'll bet Bentley would charge $10,000 just to replace the stuff engineering hides under the trunk lid...
This trunk thing is an April Fool joke on us...JimB
If given option, I would not have Cruise Control, total unnecessary, never ever would use it even 40 years ago on my new 450SL...just a dangerous gadget for lazy drivers...same with Navigation...the one came with my car is junk....same with the magic seats....
I love the car and obvious quality of the interior...but the superfluous engineering and expensive do dads **** me off....JimB
