2018 Bentley Continental GT - what's your thought?

I love the Gen2 update over Gen1 but Gen3 is meh. I can't say I'm a fan. The car is more sporty but has less of a commanding and imposing presence. It looks more like a mustang/Panamera now.


What do you think?

I'm withholding judgement until it's unveiled but I'm looking forward to it. Last year I saw an image of the current car trailing a new Continental development vehicle and the new car looked wider and lower (hard to judge with body camo on.) I can't imagine it will lose presence on the road.

For sure the new interior will be a significant upgrade in technology. The pictures I've seen look awesome.

As you know they are a massive money pit. Even if they include free servicing for three years, you'll still lose about $100,000 or more on it. Dont see any real / major design style changes from the outside, and usually Bentley in-cabin tech is 4 years behind the curve. Have a look at the tech within a Mercedes S Class. Check out the Jaguar F-Type R, almost bought one as it is a great driver's car imho. There are so many great new / fresh designs and dealers are looking to make deals as model year changeover is happening. Maybe offer 60k below sticker on the 2018 if they include three years of full servicing, or 80k on a new 2016 if you really want a Bentley, as this is more fair pricing so you split the financial loss.

Yes, the depreciation will suck, but the technology has lot of Porsche in it and should be only three years behind when it launches! hilarious

Yes, a TRUE luxury car should have certain tech in it. Try the Mercedes S and then compare to Bentley and report back. Of course no one buys a Bentley thinking it is a sports car, because at that weight is it utterly devistating. All PROPER luxury cars have excellent tech. It is expected when paying $100,000 for a car.

This months Autocar (UK) has an article and pics of the 'All new Bentley'.
Not too dissimilar to an Aston in some body areas.

Les, maybe Aston Martin should send their tooling to Bentley, and Bentley send their tooling to Chrysler. Funny, the more i think of it, other than the interior the Bentley has nothing unique to other VW Group products. Years behind in tech, maybe they should hire Harmon?

I feel so foolish falling for Bentley. It was a seriously expensive lesson to learn yet my wealthy friends do listen to me when they consider buying cars so good to know we've helped others steer clean of this nightmare brand. Funny, am in Munich at a luxury show and they have a Bugatti here. One of my friends was considering buying one and once we talked, he decided to get a Pagani instead :)

I think that's the point: buyers are going elsewhere because of the lack of technology

It depends what you use it for for me its a 3rd/ 4th car so I don't really mind not having all the tech, if its your everyday driver then yes you need the tech but, thats what Mercedes is for. I think you need a sports/ super car, a daily driver and a Bentley then you don't need everything all in one you use them for different things and have far more appreciation for each :D

Good point, a Bentley is not really capable of being a daily driver and that could have been my error as i thought for 200k it should be capable, you know, like a 40k Honda. It also helps not driving the Bentley becuase fewer miles means less chance of those pesky defects showing up. So, do you skip annual service due to low milage per annum?

The only tech I dislike is the naff Sat Nav.
My Jag XJR of the same year as my Bentley had DVD touch screen Sat Nav and full voice control. If Jag could fit it, why couldn't Bentley?
Besides, I prefer Google maps on my Android, much better IMO.

I service all my cars as per the schedule regardless of milage so if its done 300 or 6,000 or 20,000 I get it done.

Why are you having so many problems?

My point of view is closer to Stephenrmusic's in that I expect an expensive luxury car to have all the amenities of any other car AND be capable of being a daily driver. Especially if I'm accustomed to those luxuries from lesser brands.

With all due respect to others on this thread, I think if you say "it's a 4th car so it doesn't matter," you're just making excuses for Bentley. I don't see any reason that they can pull tech from Audi (the 4.0l V8,) but not leverage those relationships for decent tech.

I am inclined to agree with you however, there is something about the Bentley and the way that it is built which, leads me to cut it some slack. Its the feeling of luxury you feel when sitting in it which is most important to me. To me the tech isn't great but, its not that bad either, the sat nav integrates with my pixel so shows a satellite view which, is fine and the rest is ok. I agree its not great like my S-Class was but, there is a reason I chopped the S-Class in for the Bentley
