Stalling 30 sec after start

Any chance anyone can help me out? Fixed a vacuum leak and the car was running fine for a few days and now this. Starts to back fire and pop and die after running for about 30 seconds to a minute it's completely un driveable

At a glance: p1923 indicates ecu fault. Check connections for corrosion. Location under wiper plastic panel on right side. Also, some faults can be set by an old battery. Have a battery load test when drivable.

Best of luck.

Also noticed last night while working on it there seems to be a solenoid in the center rear of the engine that once it enables (or disables) is when it stalls out, it sounds like a vacuum leak for the first 30 sec while its running once the solenoid changes the sound goes away and it sputters then stalls. However I have been unable to find anymore vacuum leaks the conventional way with a stethascope and moving stuff till I find it, might have to smoke test it but I am unsure where to start smoke testing it due to all the one way check valves. If anyone could give me a pointer on the proper way to smoke test the vac lines I will do that next. Thank you.

Also the battery codes are because I've had it sitting for months with this problem because I havent been able to figure it out without going nuts after every 4 hour period of trying.. There isn't much info out there on these cars unfortunately

Is there a way to monitor fuel pressure using vcds? It smells very lean could it be a fueling issue?

The area by the regulator on the right at the bottom there is where it sounds like a leak that goes away and it stalls

ALSO...check your batteries AND your alternator. You are getting too many "low voltage" errors.

Long shot possibility: exhaust flaps deploy apx. 30 sec. after start. They are vac. activated. Check system. There are two vac. globes at each rear muffler flap to check.

Check (left side) static battery voltage, if below 12.3 charge it. Than turn on lights for 30 sec. than turn everything off and recheck voltage should be < 12.6 volts. Below parameters stated indicate failing battery. Running voltage would be worth noting if possible.

The solenoid suspected of vac. noise needs to be identified. That said what is it's nomenclature? Than a better evaluation is possible.

The ecu fault identified hopefully is just battery related.

What year is the patient?

I identified it as a fuel regulator of some sort, disassembled it and all seals are good, definitely not the issue I will check the rest of what you said. Also still have to smoke test it I will do that after I check the exhaust flaps and battery, I have a charger on it as like I said it was dead outside before I brought it in so hopefully that's not the issue. ECUs under the R/H plastics seem to be in good shape without corrosion.

It is an 05

Any history of vac lines above transmission being fixed? This is a chronic vac. leak source. Eng out job.

An inspection camera can be fished from above to check stated lines.

Smoke tested it, vac leaks are too small to identify with engine in. Started pulled it looks like debris in secondary cat on drivers side possibly a plugged cat causing this too?

Anything is Possible. Wouldn't expect a clogged catalytic converter to cause the describe problem above to occur so suddenly. Usually when catalytic converters clog there are other symptoms. Gathering from your post sounds like the engine is being removed?

Another approach is to erase the trouble codes and start from scratch. This being said one would be able to see which trouble codes are reset and go from there.

Yes, we did erase all codes and start over. Apparently he's been having these vacuum problems for 2 years in an out of one shop who apparently didn't care about him or didn't know what they were doing. I replaced about 6 vacuum lines and the car was fine, including repairing (jbweld) one of the one way check valves that run down the passanger side behind the steering rack sent him away and now a week later he has returned with this problem (the car is totally undriveable). We should have the engine out today

There are 2 fuel pump relays in the trunk. Switch around posiion of relays. See if this changes things. With engine out this isn't possible, so pull relays and check per test meter. One fuel pump relay is primary, start up and drive. The other is the auxiliary pump relay during high load and boost.

Also, check vacuum pump for operation left wheel well.

While the engine is out check all wire loom covers, usually brittle and possible exposed wires. The PCV pipes to intake manifold are usually brittle and break. Major vacume leak area when they break. Repair with 3/8 transmission rubber hose line.

Engine is back in, we updated all the vacuum lines on the tranny and replaced with cupronickle and proper rubber hose, vacuum pump is working and we have smoke tested all lines about 3 times each. We also found and replaced a plugged cat. Both fuel pumps are good. The car sounds much healthier and we can now get it to stay running passed 30 seconds however it still sputters then stalls after running for 30 seconds when the idle tries to drop down. It still sounds like when the idle drops down a vacuum leak "shows itself" but it's only audible I cannot find it with a smoke machine. I am going to pull the intake manifold and replace the plugs and change that gasket also.

Any ideas on why this could still be happening after 30 sec?
