Rear seat entertainment - no power

Hi all,

2008 Flying Spur Speed with the Rear seat entertainment package (monitors in headrests, DVD autochanger in boot & remote/headphones in rear armrest).
It did work but now doesn't!
The remote works as I can see it making changes to the head unit but there is no display on either of the monitors.

Any ideas where to start looking?

Thanks in advance,

Michael

HI Michael,

Did you get this issue resolved?

Hi Michael, did you ever get this resolved? I've got some suggestions that might be useful.

Hi there,

No - I never got it resolved. I know it used to work and the remote control is working but the screens in the back stay blank.

OK. I know for a fact there's multiple modules and they all kind of have to work otherwise none of it does.

Have you disconnected and reconnected the battery? That should at least do a full system power down, although sometimes the software itself can require resetting which isn't so easy without various tools such as the VAS rig.

Have you tried inserting and ejecting a disk in the changers behind the two seats? Does this work? That can at least rule out a couple of things.....

Have you taken it into a Bentley dealer at all? Just wondering what their opinion is.

I’ve never seen the RES in one of these. Can you take a picture and post please. Is this a fiber optic system or rca?Just trying to understand the post and knowing a little about av/electronics, from what you stated, my first step would be to see if the DVD player has output. I have a tv mounted in my garage and a small 32 inch laying around. I would start by running a set of rca’s (if this system even uses them) from the DVD player to a monitor. Just my 2cents

Hi mate,

It's way more complicated than that I believe. It's an OEM install that integrates with a remote of such and this controls the screens. Don't think there's any RCA. The dvd units are built into basically disc changers. I've only ever seen it once in an actual vehicle. Testing whether the changers insert/eject discs is a good start though because the power is controlled by CAN i think.

Any help appreciated.

Sorry, I've been busy. new job, no time. ah happiness in plentiful.

I only know the basics of how the rear system works, so do the usual route of powering up, down etc by disconnecting fuse, I also remember that the unit tends to sync with the remote on ignition,. could perhaps be worth switching on the ignition to full power and waiting.

Did you take it to a Bentley dealer at all (or independent specialist) yet? Have you had any problems with battery drain? This can be a surprising symptom of certain units failure, but it could be any. I'm trying to recall what issues I remember were going on with that systems around the time I left the company. I can speak to a few people I used to work with on that. The modules all connect I believe using high speed CAN but My knowledge is purely UI, so don't fully understand the complexity of data delivery.

If I remember rightly, their diagnostic equipment connects and can read coding data then it's usually an issue with the actual remote, so you're in a good place. You can reset it, but I don't know how. I think it controls front radio as well? It was something we saw. You'll have to forgive me as my mind is foggy on this.

Touch and go, but If their diagnostic equipment can't read data, i think there might actually be issues with the unit itself, but I'm not an expert, so before spending good money replacing it or what not, get a second opinion. I do know someone who might be able to help.. He worked closley on that rear system if you want his details? Pretty much knows it inside out, whether he can help, might be worth a try? There's also a couple of independent bentley garages that know those systems, but just be wary.... lots don't. The front system is widely understood far better than the rear one, so when you say "entertainment system" they auto-assume the front one. You'll need to tell them it is the that specific RSE.

Hello.
I have the same problem!
I fixed this problem for the first time by removing the fuse! (Fixing problem RSE with removing the fuse!)
I then replaced the two batteries in the car and this problem came up again and was no longer coping with the removal and installation of the fuse!

Hmmm, is it completely dead then?

Is your car draining the battery?

teodorjelev 02-10-2020 10:23 PM

Hello.
To drain the battery and therefore always be attached to the charger!
And from time to time it stops charging the battery from the charger!

Unplug that module. I know for a fact that what happens when module dies is that a number may not go into a lower power mode. It's a long bloody story this one that goes back years. Just try it though.

Bentley Rear Entertainment unit. Screens not working

Hi all,

2008 Flying Spur Speed with the Rear seat entertainment package (monitors in headrests, DVD autochanger in boot & remote/headphones in rear armrest).
It did work but now doesn't!
The remote works as I can see it making changes to the head unit but there is no display on either of the monitors.
My Bentley Flying Spur 2016 model had rear screen not working fault. Took to Bentley after trying all answers to earlier threads.

They diagnosed rear entertainment unit located in glove box (See photos). I found one on ebay, swapped out and hey presto all working fine. No needed to code. Problem solved straight away.

Bentley charged £185+ Vat for 1 hour to identify problem and wanted £2500 + Vat and £550+ vat to replace. As I never use rear screens Inthought too expensive and found the identical unit on ebay for £400. Simply slide out, and plug in.
