new coolant service interval

I am the second owner of a 2013 GT C with only 14,000 miles on it. Even the local dealership couldn't find anything to do besides sell me 2 new keys for $1200.

I'm wondering what the recommended frequency of replenishing the coolant would be for this car with likely less than 2,000 miles use per year?
I did the oil change at the 1 year mark. I haven't found a service schedule applicable for my very low mileage.

I presume that you have used the word “replenishing” when you actually mean replacement of the fluid, rather than simply topping up, in which case:

The service schedules in IETIS are triggered by time or mileage, whichever comes first, so low mileage makes no difference.

Having checked every service schedule out to 20 years/200,000 miles there is no mention of the requirement for replacement of the coolant in any of them.

What is required at every service is a check of the state of the coolant, with the recommendation to do this using a refractometer.

Also, there is a statement expressly forbidding the reuse of old coolant,

Presumably VW knows that with the propensity of these vehicles to corrode through the radiator, and the alternator to need replacement, it’s highly unlikely that any coolant will survive to its tenth birthday, so there’s no need to state a replacement interval.

Thanks.

Since there is no shop guide available to me for a 2013 GTC, perhaps you could post the service schedules you cite?

Remove or swing the radiator to the service position while doing the poly belt and tensioner @ 10 y .
Drain and refill it then .Flush it too .Replace the alternator rubber o rings while the fronts off and system drained .

So 10 years .

Thanks. So I've got a couple of years.

How is one supposed to know this? I've owned Porsche and Mercedes and there were clear service intervals and recommendations.

I assume the lack of available information serves primarily to be captive to the Bentley dealership?

Despite the 300 page manual, it's very difficult for me to figure out what preventative maintenance I should have performed. The alternative seems to be to wait for one of the service warnings to appear.

Whilst I entirely agree with your sentiment that the task you've described should be done every decade, with all due respect, I must point out that what you have written is a personal opinion, and is not based on any VW sourced information.

Sorry, 1) it's copyrighted, and 2) it isn't as simple as just grabbing some PDF files.
If you want to see service schedules from a respected independent, based on the VW publications, then you can find them here: http://pmcuk.com/service-and-afterca...ice-schedules/

Not quite in a don’t shoot the messenger kinda way , it’s based on my U.K. Bentley techs advise .At any one time they have over 10 cars in there shop , Bentley trained etc .
Its would be foolish not to attend to the Audi VAG water cooled o rings , or changing the belt tensioner , or replenishing the coolant while changing the ploy belt .

You won’t find cylinder bore scoring in any Porsche or BMW nikasal lining striping avoidance for that matter in a work shop maintenance manual .

Just shoot the breeze with guys who are hands on with decades of experience.

Took my Ferrari for a suspension rebush to a very local BMW M + race prep specialist.Saves a longer trip and I could pop in an see it on the lift etc .
Its just Boggo bushes any spanner man + press can do .Not Ferrari tied ,They have a proper geo set up and down loaded the numbers etc .

Point is this two M 5 blocks in ,in various states of rebuilds the V8 versions ,Out of warranty from BMW but young current cars FBMW SH .

They know believe me .
If ever I wanted to dip my toe into the bimmer M shark infested pool I know who to advise .Not the official dealers sharp suited sales guy on commission who started last week or the gaged corporate alter sales guy flying a desk inside .

Ask the Indys .They will tell you warts n all .

Undoubtedly many independents know their stuff, and it is wise to heed their advice, hence me quoting from the Phantom Motor Cars' web-site.

However, some of us on this forum actually work on our cars, have a lift in the garage, and a flat pad in front of the house for doing our own geometry set ups, have built a few competition cars, have built engines for ourselves and other people etc. hence are not just keyboard warriors.
