Engine oil Burning Bentley GT V8S 1 liter every 600 miles.
Engine oil Burning Bentley GT V8S 1 liter every 600 miles.
Hi,
Anyone else have oil burning issues with their Continental GT V8 models? 2016 V8S with 2XK miles and burning up to 1 liter per 600 miles is normal per Dealer.
Any feedback?
Cars under extended warranty. Any engine oil consumption test that can be done?

At a quart every 600 miles, at Bentley's recommended 10k (or 1 year ) oil change interval, your engine would be dry before 5,000 miles since the V8 has a capacity of 8 liters.
Unless you are full throttle driving, a modern car with such low mileage, out of the break in period, and only 5 years old shouldn't be burning that much oil. Looks like you can verify what's normal in the car's owner's manual.
Here's an nhsta tsb on the topic..

Per the document, the owners manual is supposed to have the oil type and consumption figures for each specific vehicle and perhaps the break in mileage/procedure. Not sure what they mean by new lubricant, specific to the car, as it's factory filled with mobil one. Perhaps because the v8s are 5w30 instead of 0w30 like the w12s.

"Technical background
With the 4.0 litre V8 comes a new oil to Bentley -this new engine lubricant must only be used in the 4.0 litreV8. The use of the correct oil for each engine is critical to its continued performance, reliability and ultimately warranty. Therefor the workshop manual should always be the first point of reference ensuring the correct lubricant is used for each specific model year and engine type Production change Not applicable
The following should be considered when discussing engine oil consumption and oil top up between services with an owner. Typically the engine will consume more oil during the running in period and will stabilise once the running in process is complete.
Refer to the owner handbook for the running in procedure.
Under normal conditions, the rate of oil consumption depends on the quality and viscosity of the oil, the RPM at which the engine is operated, the ambient temperature and road conditions. Further factors are the amount of oil dilution from water condensation or fuel residue and the oxidation level of the oil. The diluting ingredients evaporate when the vehicle is driven at high speeds, as on a motorway, making it appear that the oil is excessively consumed after driving at high speed.
Refer to the owner handbook Maintenance section for specific oil consumption figures.
Ensure the owner is aware and if supplied by your dealership is in receipt of the correct engine oil for the vehicle to be topped up."

Thank you for your help with this. I just emailed the dealer to confirm the oil. Would you happen to know where to find the digital version of the owner manual? Could I contact Bentley themselves?
Very curious if there was anything resolved here. I have a 2020 Continental GT that is burning oil at a rapid rate. Dealer hasn't been able to locate any leaks or identify any traces of burning oil, but the gauge doesn't lie and we've had to keep adding oil to keep it from running dry. Bentley's spec says the 404/V8 can burn up to 0.8 liters per 1000km (621 mi). While this seems high by itself, I believe we're exceeding this. It's not normal for a engine to burn through it's entire capacity every ~4k miles. Any update would be appreciated.
Dealer claimed everything was fine and claimed to not find anything unfortunately. Extended warranty ends soon but actually found an independent mechanic.

Crazy. I'm running another 600 mile test and seeing exactly how much is being burned off. I got roughly the same spec saying that burning .8 litres per 1000km (621 mi) is within specification. I'm not putting tons of miles on the car, but to have to add oil every few months seems insane. Buy my estimation, I think it's burning closer to 1 litre per 1000km. Either way, it seems excessive.
if your extended warranty is expiring soon, did you have the dealer do a complete once over to see if anything needed to be replaced or this might be something you want to confirm with your independent.
