Parts to Lubricate in the Powered Trunk
Parts to Lubricate in the Powered Trunk
I had a problem about a year ago with one of the gas struts giving out- powered trunk (boot) would rise and then fall. I replaced the struts and that problem went away, but for a year now, my trunk is 50/50 on whether or not it will close, or go about halfway down and then reverse, going back upwards. When this happens, I have to start the closing process and then "help" the trunk down with my hand.
I assume the motor meets enough resistance that it cuts and reverses.
I have applied silicon lubricant to the 4 moving points on the hinges, as well as the gas struts. Anywhere else I should give the motor some help?

Have you tried removing both struts and refitting.
My boot stays slightly open in one corner the drivers side, have to use my hand to shut it.
Thanks

My trunk has been acting a fool since I purchased it.
I've not once seen it close all the way. The passenger front corner of the trunk always needs to be pushed down slightly to close all the way. Sometimes the trunk lid / boot goes back up after coming down, sometimes it goes back down after going up.
I have purchased the new gas struts but have not replaced them yet. That will hopefully fix the up and down problems, but I doubt that it helps with that one quarter sticking up a little once it finally closes.
For what it's worth, this seems to be one of the most common issues with these vehicles.

Think i have found a way of sorting the boot issue out........

I don't have this problem, it closes perfectly even. I just need to help it with my hand sometimes to close. It's like the motor meets too much resistance going down, and then reverses to go back up. This started once I swapped in new struts
silicone lubricant
I used a silicone lubricant on the trunk hinge and it loosened the bolts over time causing the trunk and convertible top to malfunction.
$300 labor to troubleshoot and clean off the lubricant and re torq the bolts. The shop said I shouldn't use a silicone lubricant.
