2014 FS - Trunk won't open, dash shows open!
Started car to clean, but dash indicated trunk was open (red lid on dash). I tried door switch, key fob, and trunk lid switch, but nothing worked. I held down trunk lid and tried all three switches, but nothing. I was able to use the emergency release via the rear seat. It appears that the struts are bad, as the lid will not stay upright when fully opened manually.
The trunk had exhibited some issues, as it took 2-3 attempts to open and seemed to close very hard. At this point, the car does not recognize a closed trunk and the lid can be manually lifted slightly when closed. I never tried to lift when closed before, so unsure if this play is normal. None of our other cars have play when locked closed. Any guidance on the best sequence for troubleshooting will be greatly appreciated? I have the Ross-Tech HEX-V2, but I have no idea if a scan would apply here? Thanks in advance, DesotoJohn |
Fuse #10 (30A) is not blown!
I forgot to mention that fuse #10 in the trunk, above the house battery on the left, is NOT blown.

i have a 14 spur as well. They are known issues with trunk motors. i have to hit trunck button on door 2 times before trunk will open.
|
Yes, that was the issue we were experiencing before the apparent failure! Ross-Tech autoscan could not communicate with the Trunk module 6D, but the module ID is different from the value shown for a successful scan in August? I didn't know the ID values could change, as no equipment has been added or removed. I also realized the trunk lights and lid mounted switch do not illuminate. I plan to check all fuses and I will replace the main (left side) battery. Is there a known risk with pulling each fuse, one by one? Any that I should avoid pulling? Wish me luck!
|
New battery installed and still no luck with the trunk fault! I guess it's off to the dealership, if I cannot find any information on identifying the correct module or motor(s) to troubleshoot?
|
Ok, I had time on my hands. . .so I have "over-dismantled" the trunk! All trunk-lid related motors, switches, and module have been accessed. Does anyone have access to the closing motor connector pinout? I want to apply voltage and close it. At least I can manually close the trunk. Hopefully, this will satisfy whatever triggers the "open" trunk indicator on the dash? I suspect that may also keep the car awake for an extended period, after shutdown.
On a side note, whomever was here before me, failed to attach either battery vent! Both batteries were venting into their respective areas. Not a very safe or professional install! |

Ok, it appears that the trunk lid control module is faulty; will replace when ordered part arrives.
I now have a new problem; the airbag light is on! I use VCDS to find the error code and cleared it, but it continually returns. Is there a separate procedure for clearing the airbag light? Here is the error code: Address 15: Airbags Labels: None Control Module Part Number: 3W3 959 655 HW: 3W3 959 655 Component and/or Version: 27 Airbag 9.43 H04 0050 Software Coding: 0012855 Work Shop Code: WSC 00083 790 00218 Additional Info: 4W0959339 BF-Gewichtsens. Great call, thanks! I forgot to plug in the connector and ASSUMED the warning was caused by disconnecting both batteries. Note: Be sure to seat connector AND then depress the orange tab to lock in place. I initially seated plug without depressing tab and the Airbag warning remained!
I will update the post, after new trunk lid module is installed. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.6sp...9e155586aa.jpg |
Fixed - the new module cured problem!
Flying Spares was able to supply the OEM module and OEM struts, fairly quickly! It took about 20 minutes, as I took my time and the main battery is hefty! I appreciate the comments/suggestions provided. Thanks!

@DesotoJohn Did your new truck lid module fix the truck closing and opening power issue?
update us please. |

Hello I have the same issue with my 2014 cds but my radio isn’t working, my trunk button has no power my trunk lights don’t work either. Did you have other issues when your trunk had this problem?
|
Only experienced trunk issues!
The failed module only affected trunk operations. This included the trunk lights, no tail light blink when trunk opened, etc. My radio and other electronics did not appear to be impacted.
