Battery change.... can't get it into the tray so can't get terminals on.... any idea?
 

So I went and ordered the biggest battery as its very cold here and my current battery was showing 11.8 and didn't want it to leave me stranded, and various things were just not working and pointing to thr battery.

Anyway like I said in another thread, I bought a Varta Silver Dynamic AGM Start Stop xEV 105Ah 950A what seemed like a good idea at the time, but what I didn't know is that the is the biggest that will fit but makes it a total ball-ache to get into the space.

Whilst I might have broken a little connector on my rear tail light which will be easy enough to get a new one for, it's now wedged in, and I cannot get it into the tray as the battery is so tight into the bay its hard against the metal body wall. So the front or if you're sitting in the boot, its the right side and ChatGPT is telling me all about rocking it front to back (rotations), where back being the tail light side or left if sitting in the boot facing the wheel arch.

So I have no idea what to do next cos I have tried pulling it up and forward and everything but its like just so neat for the tray I can't get it to drop..... I am demented, and ready to quit it and sell the bleeding thing!!! why can we not do basics ourselves!!!! If I had bought a lower spec it would have fitted easier but if this is still what a MD will fit, then how th hell do they get this in!!!

Anyone any ideas?

I'd be very surprised if that battery would fit -- it certainly wouldn't in my 2015 Flying Spur. The max there is 353mm in length.

Note that you have to slide the battery a bit forward of where it will eventually sit so that the back hold-down ridge on the battery can slide under the clip on the battery tray. The front hold-down bar must be totally out (not just unbolted). Once you slide the battery back under the clip, you can slip the outside end of the front hold-down bar back in its hole, and bolt down the inside end.

​​​As @jeyjey stated, I do not think that battery will fit because of length, I assume we are talking about the house battery, left side facing the trunk from the rear, I have the H8 Die Hard which is 13.9" (354mm), you have purchased a H9 (group 95R) which is 15.5" (394mm), so a whole 1-1/2" or 40 mm longer...

To get more access if you are still dealing with this, remove the fuse box and mounting bracket above the house battery, it is 3 torx screws and 3 10mm nuts, you can see my discussion with @jim2331 from post number 76 to 104 on the matter.

I just went and measured the spare battery tray I have from my 2005 GT from rebuild, the insert where the battery would sit measures 15-1/16" (382.5mm) in length, even if you shaved the 1/4" (6.35mm) off of the one end, you still only have 15-5/16" (388.85mm) of the outline of the tray on the inside, so shy by 13/64" (5.15mm), then not sure how the hold down rod would work or interfere...

So close.

Hi chaps, yeah I gave up in the end and just bought another one at 353mm and its now in. I couldn't get an AGM same day so just went for a normal battery to get me sorted and lets just say it was very difficult to get back out, and I snapped the amber indicator bulb connector in the process so will need to get a new block or if it is detached to the bulb then a new one of them but hopefully its just. part and not. something I need an auto-electrician for wiring up.

Yeah I seen a decent video of what you mention @jeyjey and it deffo would not have got the bar back on.

I think I have the spares manual on USB so will need to have a look, but if anyone can point me best place to look it up online, much appreciated as I use a mac and its windows only I believe so either use my Mac that has windows on it that I use for VCDS or online somewhere and I can order it.

My hands are a mess and lets just say the air was blue getting it in, and even more so getting it out!! I did remove that fuse box as you said @Johnny Hotspur GT but it din´t massively give me much as there is a bracket behind it that still does get in the way, but it was worth the try.

Lesson learned on the battery size. Tbh I could have probably installed one a bit bigger but not much or the battery hold down bar would not go back in..

I found the Workshop Manual online, but never had any luck finding a Parts Book / Spares Manual / PET (in Porsche-speak) online.

Scuderia has an incomplete version online (I think the diagrams are all there, but many of the NLA part-numbers are missing). It's about the best I've found.

(If anyone knows of a PDF version, I'm all ears.)
