Gentlemen this guy jumped on me first. BTW I'm very calm, actually I've been laughing the entire time while typing.
This guy is all over the place with his responses and contradicts himself.
ex. "he doesn't care about the mpg but keeps harping about the 160 mi. range". Well what is it?

jawwadh your comments about the US I guess do not surprise me. You want America to apologize. No sir! Capitolism rules and we should not make excuses for success. You earned it legally and fairly then hold your head high.

Regarding helping the less fortunate. WTF are you laying this on me when you know nothing of me. In my practice I help people everyday who critically ill. You know what I mean, saving lives but forget that.
You do not know what I give to charity.

You prejudged me, fine and the comment about my anatomy well thats nice.

I apologize for going off topic and comments.
Out of here!

Yah that would be nice... apologize for raping and plundering africa and most of the entire world and continuing to do so under the guise of "war on terror" .. its funny, people have a false definition of patriotism.. to me patriotism is loving your country soo much that even when it is going astray, to try your hardest to pull it back onto the just course. Sometimes the sentiments people have and the blind nationalism they have remind me of the rampant nationalisms the ***** had in germany...

You are right, i dont know you, however, all my impressions are based on your posts in this thread .. and the tone and content of these remind me of some of the people in my medical school class that i cant stand due to their elitism and " i dont care attitude about others" attitude.

Anyway,

I am kinda curious as to why the m5 gets such terrible gas mileage... i have friends with z06s and they are getting low to mid 20s highway....

I get 9.6 mpg during regular driving, which is mostly sedate, with intermittent bursts of aggression. So, yeah, I drive like GT3Ranger lives...

Highway cruising nets 17mpg, assuming liberal (small 'L') use of cruise control.

If my wife drives, she doesn't do much better.

The fuel economy doesn't bother me too much, except that I feel like BMW should have been able to do better. I understand the 500HP comes at a price, but building an engine with peak efficiency so high in the rev band seems silly. I understand the high-revving N/A racey character and all, but sub-10 mpg?

As with most, it's the twice weekly need to stop for gas. I've got better things to do with my life than that, and it is annoying.

Altogether though, it's a sacrifice I'm willing to make, given my enjoyment level in driving it, and the stunned look on other drivers faces, when they pass you stationary at junction while they're cruising at 65mph, only to find you slicing by them 8 seconds later. With the kids in their car seats. Good times.

I get 15-17mpg in my W211 E55. This factors in week day commutes and weekend fun driving (plenty of WOT). My daily commute is 10 miles city driving each way. I suppose these mileage numbers are relatively good because of the thin air at altitude here in Colorado.

I do what I want. Did you forget America? This is the country I fought for buddy so do not give me your story.
You do not like the car and mpg well fine but do not give me any **** about having the car.
I work fricken hard for my income and I do what the fuq(as you say) I want with it.
I am fine and happy but you have major hang ups as displayed. You need the therapist buddy.
Oh and BTW do not give that liberal green BS.

Do not forget, this is the US of America. Remember that.

"The liberal green BS"

Watch out ranger I agree the last guy has no right to tell you what to do with your money, but I know a lot of people much wealthier than you who give a **** about the environment and dependence on foreign oil. Calling it "BS" is simply ignorant. Just because you can afford to do something doesn't mean its practical or should be done. In the mean time forgetting the gas mileage, most people use their M5's as daily drivers which means it should have more than a 170 mile range its completely impractical and ridiculous. Also it confuses me why Porsche can produce an engine in their 997 turbo that produces just as much power as the M5's V10 but gets upwards to 40% better MPG.

Well, now I can answer my own question. I got 9.6 mpg on 40 mile trip back from the dealer after picking up my new M5.

I hope gas goes up to $15 a gallon so that the roads in LA are clear...

if people can afford the gas, then leave them alone.

feed all the poor, help everyone, 1 person makes change. smh
anyone who owns a car that is on this forum... you know what nevermind.
