E60 M5 owners: Whats your MPG?
#2
I get about 160-170 miles out of a tank of gas, which is INSANE
It does much better on the highway though. I went up to Orlando (200 mile trip), kept it between 90-100 most of the time, and got about 17mpg.
Its still one of the most enjoyable cars I've ever owned. I absolutely love driving it daily and don't mind looking for gas stations all the time...

Very true. I get anywhere from 10-11mpg. Everyone told me it must be because of my driving, but even when I give it to my wife, she only sees low 11's (and thats driving the car very cautiously).

when I drive like a complete ******** which is often... I get 7.4mpg or so.
when I drive so so, 1/2 conservative cruising and then once in a while M button clowning, I get 10.5mpg.
on the freeway, you can get good mileage.
I've never ever since I've had this got better then 140 miles to a completely empty tank on the streets/highway mix.
straight highway trip to san diego, I made it down there and had gas left, but its no joke

In my turbo, I get 11.8 mpg (150 miles a tank) and that is 90% around town driving. I say 90% because even when I am on the freeway (for a few miles between Santa Monica Blvd and Mulholland) its like I'm driving on the street.
I thought 11.8 was bad but acceptable considering the "fun" factor. I don't know if I can deal with sub 10 mpg and not be as fun as my turbo. How many gallons of fuel does the tank hold?
Trying to justify anyway I can, even thinking at least I won't have to pay any maintenance costs for 4 years.
Also, anybody know what changes were made in the 08?

Just got back from driving one. Did a few "laps" aggressively and got 6 mpg, then drove it moderately and got 12 mpg. No freeway miles. Pretty similar to my turbo mpg.
So, have you ever seen less than 6 mpg or is 6 just some number that bmw set as a minimum number?

avg about 12mpg mixed city & hwy.
o8 changes are updated interior door styling/trims, center console buttons, ashtray. exterior LED front & rear lights. few new features such as soft close doors, high beam assist etc. changes are minor but overall nicely done. the styling is good for at least 2 years for M5.
it's a great car. the bluetooth phone, the toys, the rooms, the comfort, the sound... i can't seem to find any other sedan in that price range to compare to M5. the tranny is fun but u'll have to learn to get used to it. mastering it is the key. sucks the tank is too small though. 170 range is dead on.
