2000 on E39 M5 owners

What are your impressions of your car? What do you think the market currently is for a pre-owned one? I had a 98 540 Sport and always liked the body style, seems there are alot of used M5s for sale.

The E39 M5 is a wonderful car. In fact, I think it is better then the 996tt as far as build quality and all around engineering. The car is a perfect daily driver and has more power then you need out of a sedan. There are a lot on the market right now as leases are running out and the new Mercedes E55 and BMW E60 are out. Compared to the 540, you need to expect a heavier ride, much more power delivery (especially at high speeds), and better brakes. Here are some sinple tips on what to look for...

- try to get an '01 model on ('01 recieved all the major updates such as larger nav screen, angel eyes, m audio, etc)

- pricing varies with region, but here in the northeast, you are looking at high $50s for an '01 with around 25-35k miles on it

- the clutch is easy to burn, a common failure issue on the M5

The best thing for you to do is actually go to www.m5board.com and try searching through the site. Great board with great members. The M5 is a wonderful car and I am positive that you will be hard pressed to find a better all around car. Good luck and let us know how you make out.

The M5 is a great commuter car that performs well for a 4 door. But it does not make you smile like a Porsche turbo, especially one with lotsa power.
