Why recovering dashboard isn't DIY

I already did some Alcantara trim updates and decided to bite the bullet and have the entire dash and door panels re-done in leather (to replace the original pebble-grained leatherette). When finished, it will have the red contrasting stitching already on the seats and red seat belts as well. The attached pic shows the car as of noon yesterday. I sure hope they took good notes.

Maybe at first glance, but a pair of GT3 seats would run $3600 - and they don't even adjust for rake. For less than that I am having both seats, the dashboard and door panels done in black leather; Alcantara airbags, seat inserts, door pulls, e-brake handle, sun visors and console lid - everything with contrasting red stitching. It also includes red seat belts. I thought it was rather a bargain.

Definitely a bargain.

It's gonna look nice when done.

djomlas Feb 19, 2008 11:23 AM

yeah, then it definitely is.
like u said, at first glance it does seem steep.

cant wait to see final pics

That does seem like a pretty good deal, especially if they're doing all the labor to remove/reinstall the parts too. Where are you getting the work done? Do they have a website or pictures of work they've done on other cars?

That's because they are FIA approved racing shells...

OK, I got it back yesterday - but as luck would have it it was dark and beginning to rain so I couldn't get good pictures (aggravated by a bad camera and an even worse photographer). Anyway, here are a few I took in a hurry in the garage. Unfortunately I didn't get any of the door detail (stitching) or red seat belts - plus the carpets need cleaning, sorry.

I'll try to post more when I can get it outside in the sunshine.
