top gear rerun
i owned an SMG'd M3 for almost 2 years so i suspect i am qualified to comment.
anyway, back to the point - the Boxster is the only one with the manual tranny regardless of how you slice it. if you want to shift - the SLK is not on the radar as MB just doesn't like giving us a manual.

And I'd say a direct comparo of driving a 360 Modena & an SLK55 on a race track is "more qualified" than someone whom has driven neither vehicle - on the street or on the track.
I'm not trying to be an azz - just pointing out direct experience vs just an opinion. Ciao.
I disagree (with your bolded text, for reference). You can indeed shift - all 7 gears, MANUALLY in fact - on the fly via a paddle mount shifting mechanism.

just a little confused as the subject matter was a Boxster vs an auto SLK - somehow you have brought in a modena - nice car but of little to no relevance and certainly adds nothing tp the top gear review.
You had indicated the SLK55 7 Spd autobox was, "not on the same planet" as other auto box tranny options found in other vehicles (ie your SMG equipped M3). I disagreed & referenced direct driving experience of not only the SLK55 (which you apparently have never driven) but an F1 equipped 360 Modena, arguably equipped with the finest autobox transmission made. From this driving experience comparo, I advised you there was little difference for the vast majority of owners, especially as daily drivers, between the two.
And yes, this is a Porsche site...where other vehicles are also discussed (maybe take a look sometime, there are sections in this Forum discussing many other makes & models).
