Market value of 986 Boxster S's

I’m hoping the downturn in economy is not having too much of a negative effect on the value of our cars.

What would be the market value of a 2000-2002 (986) Boxster S in excellent condition with 20-30k miles?

I’ve been seeing quite a few eBay auctions where these cars are priced extremely low, only to be shocked to see it end with no bids.

I would guess about $24-27K, but not sure if that’s accurate anymore. Any idea?

A quick glance at autotrader across the country shows about 20-24K asking prices. If you think that's bad, take a look at used values on 05 Elises lately.

The good thing is that at least the prices tend to level out after several years...the biggest hit occurs in the first couple years or so. For example, I considered selling my Guards Red/Black '08 Boxster S until I saw what the dealers were offering on a trade-in, and private selling was not much better.

There are virtually no car buyers out there right now especially for a drop top sportscar in January. Uncharted waters in the auto industry. If you had to sell it today you might get $15k trade-in or $18-20k private party, IF you could find a buyer. I believe the market values will improve in the spring.

i would definitely wait until spring to sell, you will get considerably more, also, i know of many who go through the hassle of bringing the car into canada themselves and selling it for more...its a real pain though,

Market is not good for any cars now.

Right, it's definitely a buyer's market right now, not a seller's market. Frankly who cares what the value of our cars are now (I've got an '00 S)? If you're not in the position of needing to sell, then it doesn't really matter. If you are looking to sell a car with 30,000 miles on it, then just forget it and go drive the damn thing! :D

+1 on that . I was just curious about trading my car when I went in for routine service at my local porsche dealer on my 07 Cayman and this is the dealer I purchased it from with only a $1,500 off sticker at the time in late 06 .It has 27K on it Black on Black and 13K in mods ,sticker was almost 55K with Chrono ,Xenon lamps ,upgraded stereo, and others and in Mint condition .They offered me 28K on a trade in:eek: KBB is 39K

Hope you leased it or plan on keeping it longer. This market (especially the car market) is so unpredictable.

I can get a 2006 Cayman S for 34 000$ so 28 000$ for a regular ''non S'' is good considering it's an offer from a dealer.

Heck a dealer in NYC offered me a 2007 Boxster S with 12 000 miles for 35 000$.

Well, I do believe it is a buyers market. I just purchased my first Porsche, Boxster S, 2000, with 85K miles. Garage kept condition. Purchase price $10,200. I am thinking I did good. I was assuming it was worth around $15K. January is a good time to buy.
