I think you should remove the Cayman S badge and just have Turbo , it all lokks excellent :)

nice, cant wait to see vids. Are you adding a boost gauge and bypass or blowoff valve.

My buddy Ian already picked up a Turbo badge for me, but I haven't decided if it's something I want to advertise on the car hehe.. sometimes its fun to be a sleeper.

Yea I should hopefully have video's soon. Im definitely going to add a gauge, not sure about a blowoff valve though, ill need to ask TPC if its good idea or not.

Honestly if it was me, I'd make it more of a sleeper and just take the S badge off...

Blow off valve is not a good idea... the waste gate makes enough noise as is :) Hope you are doing ok in that weather Donny!

01blacks4 05-19-2009 04:59 PM

why exactly would a blow off, or diverter valve be a bad idea?

The designer/engineer decided during the build that with such a low boost application(4.5-5psi) it is unnecessary... perhaps in the future with our purpose built turbo motor with might implement one but as of now it is unnecessary.

Yes I agree with you on the noise of the wastegate :) Wish I could hear it though, past few days been nothing but crappy rain :(

I know I'm reviving an older thread but I'm searching for any method of securing the intake manifolds that looks nicer than this. For a car of this stature, I'd rather not have worm clamps holding my intakes in place.

Any creative ideas? Anyone know of a vendor that has a solution? TPC?

Great write-up and pictures and the fun "Priceless" however did have a question what are the HUGE clamps crossed... going across the distribution manifold used for is it an after thought TSB.

jiaim 12-28-2009 11:10 AM

maybe a secure to avoid poping clamps of the manifolds?

Mother 12-28-2009 11:11 AM

Whoops see you just answered my question.. With 5psi boost there is no reason I can see for the extra clamps just make sure the original crossover clamps are good and tight. In hindsight the clamps may cause more problems not allowing the parts to expand and contract as they should. 2 cents

TPCRacing 12-28-2009 03:08 PM

we have a client that made a clamping system and has offered to sell it to other turbo owners... he is over on the cayman club. Believe it or not the manifold will seperate with just 5psi... hence the straps. we had a big european tuners car in before where tehy wrapped the entire engine on a turbo 996... the straps work and allow us to keep the costs down, we could make them out of gold or unobtanium but they would cost significantly more... the straps do the exact same job on over 120 cars that are out there and have never failed... why mess with soemthing that works? The intake manifold shouldnt expand.

Are the manifolds a weak point of the cayman compared to the 996 since they do not suffer from the separation problems using a SC running similar boost.?
