Asked Ric Knab (rknab@sunsetautogroup.com) of Suncoast Porsche, Sarasota Florida to run a VIN # decoder. He will come back with all the options listed including the brand of OEM tires that came w/ the car. I received over 160 different sets of codes/options.

The Boxster is made in Finland & Germany. If it has the letter "U" in the factory code position (ie: WPOCA29936U755770) of its VIN it was made in Finland. If it has an "S" it is made in Germany.

its odd on one sheet of paperwork, i have a "U", but on another, i have a "4". I don't know why that is. I know if i take it into service, i have to tell them it's a "U" or they won't be able to look it up.

kaotic504,
Take a look at the VIN plate on your dash or check your automobile insurance card or registration papers for the complete VIN number.

kaotic504,
That is odd. My State Farm insurance card also has the number 4 instead of the letter U. I know I gave them the correct info when I first bought it.

Speaking of odd- My Boxster is a '99 but in the Porsche database it comes up as a '98. Must have been a '98 leftover given a '99 VIN year code of X.

Just tried the second link for the VIN on a CS DE-1 I just bought (hooray!) and it decoded perfectly. Pretty cool! Thanks for posting those links, MkC2.

same here, mine is a "4" as well. the insurance company and everything recognize it as a '08 CS, but the dealership needs me to tell them the last 8 digits, and i have to replace the "4" w/ a "U". anyone know why?
