Ultimate Demo of the New Boxster S.
I did the Porsche Sport Driving School last week. Cars were the new 991S(PDK/7spMan) and new Boxster S(PDK).
They are two different beasts! Both cars are not as "Raw" as before. But both are great! More refined, just as you probably keep hearing.
If you have a Boxster on order, you will be happy! If you are thinking of ordering one, I would suggest the Sports Exhaust for that additional grunt. The 991 without the SE seemed to have a lower raspier howl than the Boxster, if you want to get close to that I think the SE would help.
The Boxster performed nicely in the Autocross and the track at Barber Motorsport. I have seen a lot of Youtube posts lately of several media outlets that were introduced to the Boxster at the Barber track.
One guy I think hits it on the head.
(He says "Wow" a lot as I did when driving the new BoxsterS)
When driving these cars the one thing that stood out was how good PDK is over the last version. I prefer manual, but this PDK is so good, it would be hard to not order a car with it!
Steering: Not a big deal. I drive the Boxster Spyder now and the Boxster gave enough feel and tracked nicely around big sweepers and the autocross.
The interior of both cars are equal in quality.
OH! If you get the PDK, get the optional steering wheel with proper paddle shifters. Several drivers were accidently downshifting the cars as their finger accidently hit the back of the thumb shifters while driving aggressively and holding the steering wheel at 9-3 position. Myself included.
In conclusion, if I didn't know any better and I was put in both these cars back to back and asked which one costs more or which one is better. I could only answer that they are different!
Enjoy your new Boxsters!!! Porsche, now hurry up with the new Cayman!
