Durametric tool and Boxster airbag warning lamp

I made the mistake of starting my 97 Boxster with the driver and passenger seats out. I had just replaced the water pump and was adding coolant and purging the system. So the air bag lamp has been on since.

I've got 2 questions about the warning lamp:
1. I believe the airbag is inoperative when the airbag warning lamp is on. Is this true?
2. The $100+ the dealer will charge to turn the lamp out with their tool would make a nice downpayment on a Durametric diagnostic tool. I would rather put money into a Durametric than give the money to the dealer. Will the Durametric Enthusiast version clear the code, or is the Durametric Professional required?

And then there's one more question about Durametric:
Will the Durametric Enthusiast enable the external temperature (and onboard trip computer) feature? I understand a multiposition switch is also needed to select the operating mode once the feature is enabled, but would like to know if the Enthusiast can enable the feature.
Thanks,

The Enthusiast version will clear any CEL but I don't think it will enable the external temp and onboard trip computer. There's a used one for sale on planet9 that's still has 2 vins left.

I3m -- Thanks for the info and lead on the device.

Can you also confirm whether the airbag is disabled whenever the warning lamp is on?

I don't think that the enthusiast version can clear the airbag codes..

I don't know if the airbag is disabled. You may want to call the dealer or Porsche Service Center and ask.

Here's a post in Renntech from 2006 regarding a fix for the airbag light. Somebody used Durametric to read and reset the airbag codes.
