Cayman resale value?
 

Hello,

I'm planning to buy a Cayman as a "toy car"..:) :p I'm not going to drive it. I will put it in the garage and ..look at it for the next 30 or 40 years. My question is if I decide to sell it or give it to someone after a couple decades; how much can I or the person that I'm giving it to be able to recuperate? Thanks for your opions.

My friend bought a Cayman S new in 2008. Sticker was $65K and he paid $60K after discount. Traded it in recently and received $34K. The car had 10,000 miles and was perfect. Since the oldest one is not even a decade old, it is, in my opinion, tough to project value too far down the road. If Boxster prices are any indication of future Cayman values then you are probably better off driving the daylights out of it and using it up. Fifteen year old Boxsters with low mileage can be found for sub $10K. They sold new in the $40K's. I bought a real nice 2001 Boxster S with a sticker price over $57K for $17K in November 2011. The car had 24,000 miles and was real nice. It now has 45,000 miles and is even nicer than when I bought it. Have a nice Thanksgiving and enjoy your P car.

What he said. If you don't expect to throw the entire value of the car away plus cost of maintainence and upkeep don't buy. Plus even if it sits in your garage expect to still do regular oil change and fluid flushes to keep the internals in good shape. Any smart owner will want to see records of regular maintainence regardless of mileage.

I can't see buying such a car and not driving it tho...
