2008 Cayman S Camshaft Deviation readings

Hi all
This is a cross post I also asked at P9 but not getting any response yet.
I just took some readings using my newly acquired Durametric.
I purchased it as I was interested in finding out more about the data thats available - and specifically to check on a sporadic 'jump' in engine idle speed that is happening.

What I find is a large difference in Camshaft Deviation readings between Bank 1 and Bank 2.speed
Bank 1 deviation is 24.0938 constant and Bank 2 deviation varies 0.375 to 0.3906.
As Bank 1 is constant and there is no CEL can I assume a sensor or sender problem?
I intend to have it checked at the dealer but wondered is it safe to drive- I am worried about possibly causing damage.
Any help will be appreciated
Thanks
John

When in doubt I always err on the side of caution and have the car flat bedded to the dealer to avoid running the engine. There is too much at stake to save a few dollars for a tow. I think I paid $125 to have my car flat bedded to a dealer 25 miles away when the water pump was making noise.

If the sensor or actuator was really acting up I'd think the CEL would be on and there'd be an error code or 3. Did you check for any pending codes?

DLF WTF!!! Is that your standard non informed response to Porsche's engine problem? Since you state in your list of car you own a Cayman, I would think you'd have better knowledge of the type of IMS bearing in the Cayman. Statements like that help to add to the myth and devalue your car. The "improved" IMS in Caymans is not an issue.

Macster, I would certainly tow it to the dealer or shop with the proper test equipment. Not worth the risk driving it. Good luck & please let us know what the issue was.

Wow ! I didn't see that coming PNug.
Maybe I am poorly informed, but I am under the impression that the standard test for IMS issues is actually a check of camshaft deviations, hence the comment.

Apologies if my opinion offended you.

Now I am really interested in the diagnosis !
But I agree with PNug, Macster have it towed and tested with proper equipment, and good luck & please let us know what the issue was.
