2013 Boxster - Service
Apologies if this isn't the right place to post......
Just picked up a 2013 981, CPO and still under factory....the 40K service is coming up....do you bring it to the dealer for service or reputable shops near you?
Can anyone recommend shops in the NJ/NY area that they trust?
Thanks in advance!

Because I had a good Porsche dealer near me that I relied upon for servicing my Boxster I elected to take my 2003 996 Turbo with its CPO warranty to this dealer for its servicing. During one such service, an "early" 6-speed transmission fluid service, the tech spotted a selector shaft seal leak and after some back and forth with the factory the factory shipped out a new 6-speed transmission for the car. Not only did this new transmission address the leak the new transmission shifts way better than the original.
An indy might not have noticed the leak or not been able or willing to pursue a solution covered by the CPO warranty.
Furthermore the indy techs may not be current on a newer car. The dealer Porsche techs go out regularly for training on the new models as they arrive and probably have had training on the 2013 MY. Indy techs may not be sent out for training as this has a tech gone a week at a time and costs the shop a pretty substantial fee on top of what it spends to cover the tech's wages for the week and expenses while away at the training.
'course, you can ask what training the indy shop techs have had regarding your car and if you find an indy shop with techs with up to date training for your car then there you go.

I have a 2013 Boxster S. The closest Porsche dealer to me had clos d and the next closest k e was about 25 minutes away. So I decided to try the local porsche specialist. Big mistake. The service seemed to go well and I paid the 350 dollars but later that night the oil overfilled warning came on. I took it back and they claimed it was a new oil level fill sensor. This cost me 450 bucks but still didn't fix the issue. They claimed I needed a whole new dash. Then an engine warning light came on.
i took the car to Porsche dealer and they had to redo all the work. The last dealer had overfilled it. They fix engine light under warranty. It wasn't cheap as I got the full service done while I was there but the car has run perfectly since. If I had gone there straight away would have saved myself a chunk of cash and a lot of time.
unless you know they are working on a lot of 981 stay with the main dealer and save yourself the heartache

2013 is probably out of warranty if you can find a good reputable indy I would take it there, it's much cheaper than the dealer, if it has CPO warranty then I would take it to a dealer. My indy charges $125 for oil/filter change, my dealer charges $300. I had premature tie rod failure on the driver side, dealer wanted $1,200 for one side, indy cost $800 for both sides. It's a huge difference.
