What is the best aftermarket (non valve controled) exhaust

Hello !

I’m thinking about replacing my 2014 Boxster S stock exhaust (non PSE) with an aftermarket exhaust (non valve controlled).

But, I still want to be able to take Sunday afternoon quiet rides... I would like something that is relativly quiet at low RPM but gets really louder at high RPM.

I’ve check lots of videos on Youtube but I cannot decide.

The Borla type S seems to be too loud but sounds great. The AWE Tuning seems to be a bit quieter, but not sure. The FVD Brombacher sounds really good (seems to be the best one). The Agency Power is louder. To be honest I really don’t know...

What will best suit my needs, but unfortunately without any performance improvement, is the PSE with valve controlled but it is too expensive considering that it is necessary to buy new exhaust tips. The muffler Itself is about the same price as the aftermarket listed above but the installation is more expensive considering the vacuum tubing and the valve controller unit that have to be installed in the engine bay (a bad place to work especially in a Boxster 981). And as it is necessary to buy new exhaust tips, the best ones are the true x-pipe from Fabspeed (they are way less restrictive than the awfully designed Porsche exhaust tips with two mufflers trying to fill each others...). But here in Canada these exhaust tips are about $800 (including all sales taxes).

Do you have any advise !

Thanks

The FVD Brombacher exhaust will certainly meet and in my opinion exceed your requirements. On a decibel scale of 1-10, our muffler is a 3 below 3,000 rpms (OEM is a 2) and is a 7.5 at wide open throttle (OEM is a 5). It is effortless to modulate in between and the true beauty is the tonal quality, low, deep RSR like tones down low with GT3 Cup higher pitch, raspy killer bees up top. It is spot on factory Motorsport in nature as we use one of the manufacturers to the boys in Weissach. If you are looking for that quintessential Porsche sound, FVD Brombacher has you covered.

Thank you Rhonda. I appreciate the detailed answer. That is verry interrsting. You are talking about which FVD exhaust catback system, the "sound" version or the "TUV" ? Thanks to answer this question.

Here in Canada, it is still winter and the Boxster quietly sleeping in the garage, but in a couple of months it will be fun time and it is at that moment that I'll probably order an exhaust system. I'll contact you then to see if a discount is available. Next year it might be a FVD software upgrade 981 including the Genius Flash Tool. One of the best, maybe THE best, ECU maping on the market. I'm retired with limited revenues, so I have to go step by step in improving my Boxster S...

Thanks again Rhonda. Hoping that my written English is understandable as it is not my language.

You are most welcome and I was describing the FVD Sound Version Muffler, our part # BES 981 150 00S

I completely understand the fixed income upgrade plan . I have done every upgrade to my cars in a step by step fashion as the budget allows as well. I tend to appreciate that more as you can really get a feel for the benefit of each step. The beauty about FVD Software is our progressive tuning program which gives you a cost effective upgrade path (free FVD Software Updates) for future FVD upgrades. Let me know when you are ready for the software, as 6 Speed Members get discounts on software as well.

Thank you Rhonda. I'll contact you when time to order the FVD sound version muffler will come, probably somewhere in April.

Do you know if the shipping cost to Canada (province of Quebec) are reasonnables ? I'm asking because I've checked on few sites and it is quite differents from a place to another. For example, at Flat 6 Motorsport they seem to have a flat rate of $29,99, at Agency Power for a relativly small part, it would be $149... So it seems to vary a lot.

Sounds like a plan.

Your best bet is for us to ship from Germany directly to Canada. That way you can take advantage of the CETA Free Trade Agreement between Germany and Canada. CETA exemption means that you are not responsible for customs and duties, only local taxes. If you pm me your address, I can get back to you directly with a shipping quote.

Hello Rhonda.

Few other questions.

I'm still hesitating between the FVD Sport Exhaust (sound version) and the PSE for my 2014 Boxster S (981S). There is a $1,300 price gap between them (PSE require more time to install because of the valve controller kit and require to buy new exhaust tips which explains the price gap) and the PSE gives absolutly no power gain (or few HP if the exhaust tips are Fabspeed true x-pipes), the FVD add some HP.

Which will be quieter under 3,000 RPM, PSE with valves OFF or the FVD ?

Which will be louder over 3,000 RPM, PSE with valves ON or the FVD ?

The best one would be quieter under 3,000 RPM and louder over it... Not sure it is something possible through...

I've listened to countless youtube videos for both of them and I still can't answer the question.

Note: If someone else has experience with both exhausts, your opinion would be appreciated of course.

Thanks.

Not the same car, but I have the FVD Sound Exhaust on my 986 Boxster S but no PSE valves. It's not bad under 3000rpm, but I can confirm it's not very loud over 3000rpm.
