The key is to go to a company that already has a system in place. (i.e. Farnbacher or FVD) the conversion cost minus what you sell the 3.2 that the Cayman has stock.

Dave on 6speed is having a 3.8 installed in his Boxster S by FVD now and Farnbacher already has a system (Cayman GTR)http://www.farnbacherloles.com/st/gallery.asp

The mid engine platform is a more useable and efficient then the rear engine of the 997/996 why do you think the CGT/F430/F360 etc etc are all mid engine.

wouldn't cost arm & leg? sure it's easy to say. but with the money spent u can get a much better car. it's one of those fun project no doubt but realistically it's not a good way to compare them.
I get your point. You are right. You cannot compare them as investments. Only performance wise. THe cost of the crate engine is around 15k and you can sell the engine the car came with for 5k easily. Labour will cost (that's why most swaps are carried out by people who own upgrade shops).

I don't know whether I would do it or not at the moment but if I had 60-70k to dump on a weekend/track toy why not?

You NEVER recoup your money out of MODS. Remember how much it cost to go to stage 4 on a TT.

Arling,
I'll get back to you on that later...like Monday. I have a couple of dates to keep with a BadAss 996tt for breakfast, and for a snack or about lunch time I will go pick on a CL65, that probably wont turn out so good, as I chipped that car....oh well, might as well pick on a real car. We will see how well it holds its own against that, not a Vette.
