You bring up a good point. When I called up our long lost friend KPV to let him know that I had pulled the trigger on the 3.8L conversion, his first question after "Why the **uck would you do that?" was "What will be the Weight/HP ratio compared to my 996TT? After we made some assumptions, the Boxster and/or the 3.8L converted Cayman will show an incredible weight/hp ratio very close to that of the TT. I guess the Lotus guy knew what he was talking about. Now, if we could find someone to do a Cayman TT........ Dave |
What else is changed in the conversion besides the engine? In other words, are there additional oil or water coolers involved, etc? If not, the weight really shouldn't change all that much during the conversion. In the history of 911 engines, the weight often increased due to extra accessories being added, such as AC compressors, larger alternators, heavier flywheels (in some cases), etc. Turbo engines also tend to be heavier than their normally aspirated counterparts. Looking at those factors, I'm guessing you won't see much of a weight change.
Remember the book rate quoted is for a completely base unit. As soon as you start adding options such as full power seats, etc, the weight goes up. |
