Convertible top hack; Disable speed and handbrake overrides??
Hello,
I’d like to do 2 things with my top.
1, Disable the speed restriction for operating the top.
2, I’d like to disable the handbrake requirement (I’m just not that lame).
Surely someone’s done a hack like that,. Anybody know of a thread? Or done it? (I’ve searched allover, I can't be the om;y one and it can’t be that complicated)
Thanks, PK
P.S. I'm familar with a ciouple of plug in mods tha do all this + have a "one touch open close" funtionality, nice but rather pricy...Exact same logic as my garage door opener...

I did it on my old Boxster. You have to pull the conv. top relay. Find the pin that is labelled as 18. Just gently bend it over and plug the relay back.
This disables the speedo input. You still have to engage the hanbrake, but one click up should work. At low speeds this won't be an issue.
Some cars require two clicks of the handbrake for the switch to activate. This can be adjusted if need be.
Remember, don't drive over 20 mph while operating the top. Could cause serious damage.

Seems like it wouldn’t be a big trick to jump (and therefore disable) the e-brake part. All I’d really like to do is coast into a parking spot while the tops going up.
Thanks a lot for the tip
Regard, P.K.

You are bending the pin to keep it from making connection. The pins should be labeled on the relay.
I don't know if you want to jump the e-brake. The light would always stay on in the dash. With the ebake up one click you can still coast as the brake isn't engaged at the wheel. I used to do this all the time.

I have had it done on my 99 since 2000, great hack, and well worth the 3 minutes to do it.
In my opinion keep the hand brake in the mix, that way my 9 year old at the time cant activate the top going 60 because he was cold. Now that he is 13 he wants the top down all the time because its cool.

Gary, Your car looks great. How reliable has it been with all those miles.
I got rid of mine when the warrantee expired. I was thinking of getting another as a daily car.

Thats partially right. It does contract the brake from the first click, however, it takes a few clicks before the pad makes contact.

Thanks. Another wrinkle to pursue

Are we talking the double sized relay/controler in the drivers footwell above the fuses? Mines got a circut board inside with 2 little tinney relays on it.
