$999 22" ebay rims?

I see quite a few ebay sellers selling rims like these for $999:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/22-Br...em190183856193

Questions are: How's the quality? Would I regret if I go with these? Where's a great place to shop for (OEM-replica or non-OEM-look) rims for good prices?

Thanks in advance for your input...

I wouldnt buy Replica wheels, its just me thinking they cannot cope with the cars weight; Then again the wheels are important part in the cars safety you should pay more for higher quality wheels to ensure you the safety and durability with coping with mis-imperfections on the road and so on.

Thank you, Mohammed. But replica just copies the style, right? How about non-replica regular after-market ones? Do you think they can cope better than the replica ones? I mean they're both non-porsche rims, right?

A lot of it simply comes down to cost of raw materials and labor. The companies that ONLY sell replicas let the big companies do the hard work with R&D, then copy the mold and sell to the lowest bidder. That said, don't expect the same quality and fit and finish as you'd get from marquee makers, but as far as "safety" and being able to handle the weight of the car... that won't be an issue- what will is how easily susceptible they are to curb rash, paint damage, pot holes etc... They can be used as winter beaters, but aren't show wheels. Then again I don't know who runs 22" winter beaters

I just recently agonized over this decision. I mean spending oover $5,000 on a set of wheels is a little nuts. 8% of the car tied up in wheels? So I was looking at those "replica" wheels real hard. In the end, I decided to look for a good set of marquee wheels that I could get a good deal on. I was concerned about quality, warranty and resale factor.

I looked at eBay for a long time, watched this board and reviewed what others were selling and in the end found an excellent set of wheels for $3300 some $1500 off list. With the tires, the price came to over $5,000 (ouch, I am not a big baller so that is a lot of money to me) but I think it will be worth it. If I decide to sell the car and get something else I can always sell these for a decent price. If I buy the cheap wheels, I will hardly get anything for them. So now I have a beautiful set of BBS wheels that I can proudly display on my Cayenne with no worries about anything.

Anyways, just my two cents and logic. Hope this helps. If you decide to get the replicas, no one will disparage your choice or think any less of you. Do what you is best for you, your car and just as important, your budget.

As a daily driver I wouldn't put that kinda of money into wheels. But that is just me. The potential for me to be PISSED when i curb is much greater at 5K

Milano Wheels makes a decent looking 22" for $1K or a little more. Style M730.

They make a 738,739 and 740 that are very nice but they won't make them fit a Cayenne S. They said due to the larger brakes on the S.

The style is very nice for the money just too bad for the fitment not being made for the Cayenne. I would sport them on my Cayenne S. They make these styles in 3 piece but they get into the DPE/Iforged money.

5x130 is not an umcommon bolt pattern but they say its the offsets. I think they need to rethink their markets.

I have had expensive rims (HRE), some what expensive rims (Iforged) and I have replicas (22" Sport Technos). They all bend the same when you hit a pot hole, get curb rash the same when you scrape a curb and have all worked the same in terms of functionality. IMO the main difference is in the price and I have no problem buying replica wheels. In fact the HRE's bent the worst and most often and everyone that I know that has had HRE's have bent every one of them. Granted I am in NY and don't have the greatest roads, but that is what I have to deal with and the rep's have held up just fine.

Alpine,
Thank you for the input!

Griza,
I did a search on your post and saw the 22" sport Technos here:

I see you got them from Discount tires... Did you buy separate Porsche emblems from the dealer to put them on the rims? what about the door sills (sp?)? They look Great!
Thanks for sharing.

agreed.

I had a set of the 22 Techo Reps and thought they were fine. My only complaint was the load rating, 1573lbs which theoretically means that if the vehicle is loaded to max gvwr the rims would be overloaded.

Griza - I am with you. I had them all and my Works on the 997TT is by far the best. I have had them before but after too many sets of HRE's and others I decided to stick with what I know works(no pun intended).

My Cayenne S(yes I pulled the trigger yesterday) is a daily for me and it will not get the 5-6K treatment..

The 22" Sportec Reps looks promising but not 100% on them at the moment.

Cellg8 - you are very welcome Enjoying your stay so far at the 6?

cell - its Black/Black 08 CS SAT/NAV, Air Suspension, and some small add ons.

Weather is horrible to take pictures - rainy. When it clears up I will take some.

What did you use to shoot your pics?

I am using CANON 5D with some "L" series lenses. Fav so far outside of the 16-35 F2.8 "L" is the 24-105mm "L" series F4.

So is it you or your wife that shoots weddings?
