Tire question?

Hello All,

Have a Cayenne S with a tire size of 275/45/19. If I put on a set of 275/40/19 will it mess up the car? I've looked through the owners manual and it says nothing on that size. Excuse my ignorance. Thank you for the reply's.

Fred

I would stick with 45 series. 40 series would be a lower in profile.

Swapping your 45 profile tire for a 40 while keeping the same 19 inch wheel won't mess up your car but it would be better to keep the 45. Using a 40 effectively reduces the circumference by an inch (28.7 inches to 27.7 inches). This will create a -3.8% error in your speedometer.

I know someone already mentioned the smaller size issue, but I thought I might offer some insight into the three sets of tires I have used in the same size you are questioning...

Originally my Cayenne came with the 275/45/19 Russos... they where the best in the dry, even in the cold weather, and always decent in the wet... so if you only drive in warm fair weather try them... I used mine for 21K-22K until i felt they were becoming slicks... even new they were hopeless in snow... true summer only tire...

The next tire I tried was the 275/45/19 Goodyear LS 2's and found them to be a great balance between the wet and dry and decent in the snow even when they where well worn got approximately 34K 35K out of those tires...

Currently using the 275/45/19 Continental DWS... I love them in the snow, absolutely fantastic I have been down in the MD, VA area with them and all the recent snow and state of emergencies etc and had 0 issues sticking and have been able climb back road hills and move around other sliding 4x4's and without having to engage any additional off-road settings... Last night in the dry and wet I was surprised how quick they broke away I took a friend for a drive to show off a bit and found I'm not that thrilled with them in the dry and light puddles....

I will let you know in another 3K miles what i truly think maybe I should try to give the true dry evaluation during a warmer temp say 50+ which we have not seen in the North East since I mounted these tires a few weeks back...

In 30K I will try the Mich Laptitude touring excuse the spelling but since they were $125+ more each I decided against them this round.

oh you may ask prices...
$275-325 for Russo's depending on time of year
$235-258 for Goodyears I think I paid $230 or close to it as shop price...
$189-225 for the Continental DWS I paid $185 shop price...

others to consider don't hold me firm on these prices I have not checked in the last month

Toyo had a tire not remembering the model for around $170.00
Mich lapititudes were in the $300+ range
Other Contientals where also in that range

Also one thing my Cayenne is an S with Air Suspension... my driving style is idiot when demonstrating the handling of the car, and pretty much a light gentle cruiser the other 98% of the time I always check my tire pressure monthly and even more frequently when she outdoors in MD and she spends a night in the cold... she is garaged in NYC and driven daily by both my wife and myself... 75% of my mileage is highway with cruise...
