How is 21 in New York area
Hello everyone
Great forum and super informative. Anyone in the NYC or NJ area has 21 inches wheels? How are they holding up? I had 22 and bend them within weeks. I am thinking about getting 21 but kinda scare will not last a year so need some feedback. Thanks, Lou

depend honestly on the quality of the wheel. If you get some cheapy wheels yes, and also you must have a good eye for pot holes.....lol
P.s what kind of wheels did you have before?

Thanks for the good advice. I had 22 Gemballa, the rims had a little "dish" to them, front had about 2 inches and rear had about 3. They were made specifically for the Cayenne. Bent 2 right rims at the same time by a 3 inch pothole. I had to drive like there were landmines when I had the 22 but finally still ate it. I was thinking about getting 21 BBS, RS-GT design maybe, looks about the same as the Gemballa. I'm considering the 21 because a local shop offered them to me at good price. I have 18 winter on now and drive like I don't care, love the worry free but dream about nicer rims. haha. Oh and the 18 really sucks at cornering, screams at me like my angry wife.

I have to disagree. I have 21 factory Porsche gts wheels, and can attest they are VERY strong. Recently I was backing in a parking lot @ a brisk pace and hit a square curb island with the left rear wheel/tire. It broke the sidewall on my tire(295-35-21) and messed up my wheel bearing 3 months later, but the actual wheel is totally unscathed. I also off-road quite a bit for work, and I'm not easy on the cayenne. All the wheels are perfectly true.

Thanks again for al input.
I am playing with tire size now and asking if anyone has experience with bigger tires on 21 or 22. How about 295 40 21 instead of the 35 side wall. That will provide 118mm even more than the 20" rim with 110mm (factory tire size). 295 40 22 / 305 40 22 - on the 22 rims I already have (now fixed the bent and just sitting around).
I understand the rolling distance will be greater and speedo will be off, don't mind or care. I am pretty sure the wheels will clear and not rub, at least for the larger 21 tires, which is only 0.44 inches more in diameter than the 285 35 22 I had on 22" rim.
Diameter of wheels with factor 295 35 21 - 29.10 inches
Diameter of wheels with 22 rims 285 35 22 - 29.85 inches
Diameter of wheels with larger tires
295 40 21 - 30.29 inches
295 40 22 - 31.29 inches
305 40 22 - 31.61 inches
Can anyone provide some insight on this? Are there consequences and repercussions I am not aware of with larger wheels and tires than factory fitted size. Will the larger wheels look stupid and handle sloppily? Maybe the larger 21 22 rims are inherently weaker and even with larger sidewall will not help much with potholes?
Thanks a million
