3M or not on new CTT?

2011 Meteor Gray CTT just arrived at dealer today. Dealer is trying to convince me to do 3M on front bumper and approx 20 inch on hood. Rocks used on the roads here in the winter. My 997TT doesn't have 3M, but it doesn't see much action when the rocks are still on the roads. Worried about the look, fading, etc of the 3M. Thoughts?

How much are they charging you? I didn't do it on my black 997, if i had the choice i'd probably go for it.

i have the front bumper and side mirrors on the silver cls and so far paint still looks good.

perhaps put it on for now, you can always get it removed if you ever wish to.

I did it to my Sand White CTT, and was really glad I did the first time I was heading up I5 into Oregon, and had a semi toss a rock....no paint chips for me :D.

I also filmed my C2S, and my old '07 Cayman S (traded for the 911).

I strongly recommend it for any high end car - especially metallics, as it's nearly impossible to touch them up. Make sure the also apply the film to the back of your mirrors, edges of all 4 doors, gas tank fill door edges, and lastly the rear bumper (at least the horizontal flat where scratching from loading/unloading may occur).

I'd recommend it as well. I have coverage to the A-Pillars and wished I had done it a bit sooner. I know others have found the paint resilient; this has not been my experience with my 11 CS. Spring driving on Alberta roads was not kind.

My installers offered a guarantee against yellowing - just remember that it's completely removable and replaceable!

I'd suggest getting the entire hood done, and don't forget the headlamps, signals, and fogs.

My 05 Audi A6 had the best paint I've experienced.

Appreciate the input. I am also battling the rocks (boulders) they put on the roads here in Calgary.

I'd do it without question and I did before I took delivery. I had the full hood, full bumper (front and rear), full side fenders, full mirrors and arms, behind door handles.
Wrap as much as possible that you want to afford.
The warranty replaces if it fades or peals. It WILL save your paint, go for it.

I live in Calgary as well. Shadow Tint on Macleod Trail is MUCH cheaper. South Centre quoted $2000 for the job -- Shadow Tint did it for $1200. I suspect SCFC take them there and upcharge. Congrats on the CTT - would love to see it.

Forgot to mention I did all light lenses as well.

PS - you're welcome to inspect the job they did on mine.

Thanks guys. Sounds like the right choice, and Jace from your pics, don't even notice it. Appreciate it!

Mine was a $4,000 job I think. Some wanted up to $6,000

The 05 S I bought had this installed back in 2005. I have a copy of reciept from dealership. They charged $550 for the front, 1/3 hood, mirrors, door handles, gas, and door ends. It actually is holding up well. I don't see any discoloration and while there are a few areas it is starting to come up, these are 1/4 inch in size and not viewable unless I get really close to car.

It is however starting to show it's age as there are many white spots that I guess otherwise would have been scratches.

I am not sure what would happen if I removed the 3m, I wonder if there would be a distict line due to having protected paint and not protected paint.

Overall it has really helped. I wish I had it on the windshield (not sure if this is possible) cause I just noticed a chip today as I was washing the truck.
