JL AUDIO 1/250 AMP in 2003 Cayenne with Bose - is it possible
#16
I thought that I'd share some pics of a little idea that I had based on some previous post regarding similiar subject matter. I too have suffered stock bose sub amp failure due to water getting into that area from someone where (I haven't tried to find the source of the leak yet (assume it sunroof drain related)). I happened to have an Alpine amp and a kicker compettion sub laying around. So rather than try to replace the failed sub, I thought this might be an interesting approach. All I have left to do is a little wet sanding of the primer, spray top coat and finish up the wiring. Thoughts/comments are welcome.
Nice - what size sub is your blank?

The sub that I'll be using is 6.5" vs the stock sub which isa 5.25". The type of sub prefers a sealed enclosure, so I cut off the port and glassed it up. I hope to have it wired up in the next week or so.

I was also researching how i want to install a new head unit too. I have the CDR23 and its terrible. Thinking about the pioneer avicz130bt
btw, using the wires from the bose amp to power the new amp. Whats the max you think it could handle? I see the guys doing this are using a pretty small amp and one sub. Do you think it'll run 2 12 w6v2s and a 500/1 amp? Or is that too much?
most likely the 2 12s is too much bass for me anyway and i'll part out one and keep one.

It will run the 500/1 on the cayenne 30a fuse IF you use the subsonic, and wire subs for 8 ohms. You will still have more bass than you need to match the bose. Set the bose bass to zero, and then match up the level. It will still blow the fuse when playing test tones, but as you turn the (huge) output down, it will blow less and less. I still carry extra fuses. Sounds great, but bass accuracy is not as good as when this equipment was used with my old Alpine. Still great though. The 500/1 needs ventilation.

You are talking about running both the Bose sub and Aftermarket sub at the same time? I plan on completely disconnecting the bose sub and amp. And just running my aftermarket sub and amp using the wires provided for the bose amp.

I disconnected the factory bose sub/amp and installed an alpine digital amp exactly as Roxxboxx suggested.
works quite well.
The 500watt amp from alpine, couple with a JL Audio 10" sub outpowers the Bose factory system quickly, but this setup sure did save alot of hassle dealing with these car stereo shops
thanks again Roxxboxx

Take a look at these posts:

and even better:

I did the alpine amp directly into the stock bose subwoofer wires and the stealthbox - per this write up. looks and works amazing!!!

Your modified Cayenne Bose Subwoofer box looks great! I have the same Bose subwoofer and I want to upgrade the sub using the Bose box. How did you modify the box to fit the amp and kicker sub? thanks
