looking at 06 turbo - what to look for
I am planning to check out 06 turbo. New to Porsche - so what should I be looking for to make sure I would not get myself in trouble? Is there FAQ on the subject on this web site or somewhere else?
Thank you for the feedback!

make sure you have the coolent pipes replaced with metal ones and the cardum
joint or what ever that drive shaft joint is called all under warantee if you have one.
so get one with a warantee and you will be golden. i have 105k on mine now and
it runs like a dream. super stout unlike any american tin can at 100k.

I will be looking at privately owned car. What is the cost to replace coolant pipes with the metal ones? $1,000? More?
What is cardum joint? Can I or mechanic detect a problem with it? How much does it cost to replace?

Checked Russian Cayenne forum and biggest concern there seems to be scuffs inside of the cylinders (at least this is how I interpreted it). Result - knocking sound when engine is called and, I assume, increased oil conumption. Is this fatal to the engine? How can the potential problem be diagnosed? Russians were talking about using endoscope (spelling??). Does this make sense?
Very relevant issue actually...
They are talking about what we would call a bore scope.
They remove the spark plugs, inspect the cylinders with a small, flexible camera (called a bore scope)... and look for scoring due to failed piston rings. This leads to internal damage and lower compression. From what I understand... there aren't engine rebuild kits for the Cayenne Turbos... Dealers recommend a remanufactured engine ($25,000 + installation).
additionally, check the ignition coils and diverter valve (they are small issues, not too expensive to fix... but you may want to plant those into the budget).
