Upgrading CTT throttle body 76mm>>82mm?

I have a 2004 Cayenne Turbo. I know that comes with the 76mm throttle body. I am interested in the IPD plenum. But is it possible to use the 82mm throttle body out of the 2009 cayenne turbo S and the 82mm ipd plenum made for that car on my cayenne without any installation or drivability issues?

Thanks,

You will need a tune to compensate for the bigger TB/Plenum.

Thanks for the info venkatreddytx.

Do you think it'll make alot of difference in power?
Has anyone else done it on the cayenne? i know the 911 guys do it...

I have done the cross-reference in PET for the 4.8L 2008-2010 CTT and it is a direct bolt-on.

PET even lists it as an available acceptable part number on my VIN.

I plan on buying the larger Turbo S TB when buying a new IPD plenum later on this fall.

You can see that on my signature below.

If you upgrade the throttle body, intercoolers, and piping, then you should go with the Turbo S tune since all the engine mods are there.

NOTE: I am already running an aftermarket tune, so it might be easier for me to make this transition.

You will lose a bit of bottom end, will gain on the top end.
On the 997 turbos they are claimed to be good for 15WHP.
Difficult to say if you will feel the difference in the seat of your pants.
The bigger TB/Plenum is part of much bigger kit on the 700 Turbos kits.

No one really answered this and so I thought for those seaching and finding this thread a bit more detail is needed. If you own a 2008 or newer Cayenne you can upgrade to the larger 82mm TB. However on a 2004-2006 model the intake manifold that the TB mounts to is not set for this large of a TB so the CTT stock 78mm - part# 94860511503 - is about all you will be able to fit. For most mods this is still fine.

I had a 04 CTT with the power kit on it, I wonder if it had the larger tb on it?

extrude honed

I used to get my throttle bodies Extrude Honed back in the day for the race cars. I wonder if you can get the 76mm honed out to 80mm or even 82mm. There is a place that does it cheaply. Probably worth a shot since you would not have to change any of the external parts or connections.

Thanks for the direct answer V10!!

Thanks to everyone else that commented too, i may go with the 78mm or like carreracup03 said, try to find a place to extrude hone the stock one.

Maybe I'm asking at the wrong forum group but I want to try...

I'm trying to find out if the 82mm throttle body out of the 957 Cayenne Turbo S (2008-2010) would bolt on 970 Panamera Turbo (S) ?
And then I could use the 82mm IPD Plenum made for 957 Turbo S on my Panny.
By the look at the photos the shape of these parts are almost identical on Cayenne and Panamera, or I'm mistaking ?

Thanks in advance for all replies.

Waste of time and money. Your searching for power.

I don'r get your answer. How it is related to TB shape? Can you explain, or somebody ??

You don't need a throttle body upgrade or intake to make power. The HP per $ ratio is very very small, unworthy. There is no upgrade available for the 955 4.5L as has been stated.

negb 04-15-2018 07:01 PM

any upgrade on Porsche HP per $ ratio is small, except ECU tune but doing ONLY ECU doesn't look properly to me.
Regarding intake you might be right in this case, much bigger problem is intake air temperature, not the amount of air, but besides air volume I want better look in engine bay, IPD plenum and polished stainless steel pressure pipes makes to look it much more better.
And it is not about upgrade on 955 4.5L, it is for 970 Turbo S 4.8 as I've wrote above.

i could be wrong, but i believe to bolt on 82mm TB you need the intake manifold from Turbo S as well as its opening is bigger than on standard turbo.
I have seen threads on here or the other site where someone swapped the manifold.
