HELP! Coolant leak 2009 GTS--from the gearbox?
I have an 09 GTS with just over 105K on the odometer. Recently, I started loosing coolant. I refilled and my idiot light went off again after about a week of driving. Then I noticed a daily puddle (small) under the middle section of the car when backing out of the garage in the morning. I took the engine covers off and noticed no wetness in the engine bay, nothing behind the wheel well, none of the usual suspects from what I've read on here. Then I put it up on ramps and crawled under, found drips coming off of the transmission housing and differential (what they look like to me, anyway). It is a 6 speed gear box and I have noticed that, writhin the past few weeks, first and second gear, along with reverse, are really choppy, like there is no sure engage point, it just pops in. Could it all be related? Does the engine coolant run through the transmission as coolant? Opinions needed please, I know I need to take it in, I just want an idea of what's going on...
try to look behind the engine where are located several different hoses....
i had situation where reverse hose was blown away....but in my case liquid went out very quick.
i dont belive that transmition and diff are cooled with liquid water .
attached is pic where i had problems (from top the engine was totaly dry)

That's the transfer case being shown, and no coolant goes to it or the transmission or the differential. The rear engine/transmission mount is also shown.
People seem to assume that where the coolant is dripping is where the problem is. It rarely is on a car. Coolant (like water) runs downhill. If you have a drip - the leak is ALWAYS above it. As it's running down it can be blown around by air moving through the engine compartment. You have to follow the trail of coolant back from the drip to see where it started. With Porsche coolant that's typically easy since it leaves encrustations of hardened coolant behind when it leaks. The trail is usually quite obvious.
I do question if it's only coolant dripping off the bottom of your transfer case - looks like there may also be some oil to me. If the transfer case is low on oil that might explain your choppy shift behavior.
There are a multitude of places the coolant might be leaking from - probably some plumbing attached to the engine. Follow the trail. When you get to the other end you'll be where the leak is.
