P0017 Exhaust camshaft position with respect to crankshaft timing

Hi,

I have a Porsche Cayenne 2004 3.2 v6 with the faulty code: p0017. I am thinking about replacing the camshaft position sensor. Does any one know
where it located ?

Thanks,

BT

Sorry Guys, I forgot mention: Porsche Cayenne 2004 3.2L v6 non turbo. Also, do you guys know if this is a VR6 engine from VW ? Single cam shaft intake and

Single cam shaft exhaust ?

Thanks,
BT

To Find V6 955 Crankshaft position sensor

Hi,
Best to strip-out right-side beautification plastic panels, Air Filter Box, disconnect rear alternator signal plug, Take off Main Water Pipe supporting bracket and ‘Gently pull-out Oil Dip-Stick &Dip Stick Shaft from the engine-block. The Wire harness attached has a Grey Plug Slid Into Bracket welded at the bottom of the Fip-Stick Tube, seperate

This is what it looks like: Grey Plug, Wiring Pig-Tail & follow it down you’ll find the Crankshaft Position Sensor for Porsche Cayenne (955) V6 2005/2006
the Grey Plug halves, then follow-down the Pig Tail, at the end sitting inside the casting near the Oil Filter Bracket you’ll find the Crankshaft Position Sensor at the end of the Wire Pig-tail, there is 1-Single T70 Torx Bolt fixing it to the bracket housing. Ensure you electrically clean the mating faces when you re- install the new Crankshaft Position Sensor, and reinstall the wiring pigtails properly in their original routings.

I did this with the car on a pair of ‘drive-up Ramps & a very bright LED Torch......Easy!!

Hi@gregory knightgregory knight,

Thanks for instruction. Could you please confirm that - you also have the same
faulty code: p0017 and replacing the Crankshaft Position Sensor would work in your case ? I am not sure if it is a CAMSHAFT Position sensor or the Crankshaft Position Sensor on my car.
I was thinking about to try to replace the CAMSHAFT Position sensor but it seemed like other people are replacing the Crankshaft Position Sensor.

Thanks,

BT
