V6 cayenne under heating , new owner

Hi all

new to me cayenne 957 3.6 V6 spewed all it’s coolant a few days after buying it,found huge leak at thermostat on side of engine.pulled it and the rubber o-ring was pinched explaining the leak but no thermostat fitted.

Id only driven it to work once-before the leak and the temps hadn’t risen to high.

I just fitted a new gasket and thermo and vac bleed the system with new oat fluids .I’ve left it idle and slow to show temp on gauge and then drove it two miles and still only showing 20oC and hoses on top right side of rad are boiling but on other lower left side are cold/Luke warm.

it’s like the thermostats not opening or am I not giving it long enough/distance .the heaters in the cars nice and hot and were cold before I did the work.

any ideas lads please

Sounds like the thermostat is stuck open. You can test it in hot water on the stove and a thermometer. It may have gotten blocked by something as well if you used gasket sealant or something.

Tks for the reply , ya sounds like that but as a new Porsche part I’d have thought that may not be the issue . I’ll have to drive it a distance to see if it releases , shouldn’t be an issue I’d think ???
didn’t use any sealant only genuine o-ring

So strange? Sure there is no air trapped in there? Can you see the water flowing/circulating with the radiator cap off? Maybe some air was trapped and didn't have time to get out if the thermostat was still closed when you filled it? Try to let it idle for a long time with the cap off. Might need to be burped? Try and have it parked so the radiator is higher than the block and let it warm up with the cap off.

Hey Boost tks

possibilly the issue , drove to work today and bang in middle of gauge 80oC till o got to an uphill section and slowly crept up to 92/3oC . Can control it by running interior fan fill hot to help dispel heat into cabin. I didn’t see fluid pumping in through open cap the other day , I’ll put the front up on stands and see if it will clear anymore air

Tks again
